I find it hard to grasp that people would choose a social network without custom emojis, DMs and video support over the fediverse

@Flaky@furry.engineer avatar

@volpeon As someone who uses both, I can see why. Bluesky made it really easy for people to get on-board, with its familiarity and not introducing federation immediately so people weren't getting confused. The fediverse has issues with choice paralysis and federation not working properly (either accidentally or deliberately). Not everyone's nerds like us and they have a much lower tolerance for learning curves and problems like what I stated.

This is a really good post outlining the issues Bluesky users had with the fediverse. This was during the invite-only phase of Bluesky, which meant people mentioned on the post had tried the fediverse - specifically Mastodon - and then disliked it so much they went out of their way to replace it with a service that was closed-off and invite-only.

Bluesky federating is really happening? I didn't think the day would come

@anthropy @volpeon @senil888 For what it's worth, Atproto does have its own way of federation. I'd say as a user it's more of a backend thing than a front-facing one like how ActivityPub is, they really don't want people to worry about federation the same way people have to here.

The teaser for Olly Alexander's song is promising, gonna share it to Eurovision fedi. Thankfully BBC shared the teaser on YouTube.

Honestly, UMK was the first national selection show I've been properly invested in.
And honestly, that was great. Real fun, will be checking it next year. :D

If you haven't already, listen to Kaarija's debut album "Fantastista". It's his style of rap mixed with drum'n'bass beats and it works really well. @eurovision

Sweden giving their 12 to Jesse Markin is surprising as well. @eurovision

Okay, the UK giving their 12 points to Windows95man is surprising. Definitely not a BBC jury. @eurovision

@Setok @eurovision Seemingly so, at least for UMK. The British Eurovision jury will not be like that come the day of the ESC haha

While I'm rooting for Sara, I won't lie - part of me wants Windows95man to win just so Windows 95 has a place at Eurovision. Like an international reminder to Microsoft that Windows 11 bad lol

I wasn't big on the studio version of Mania, hoping the live version changes that!

Last time I was nearly brought to tears with a live performance was CHVRCHES. And Sara has done it. I've never rooted for a song on a national selection that much, fuck. @eurovision

  • Worried about the vocals on Cyan Kicks' performance but their staging and choreo was great.
  • Glow was fun, this is the second time I've enjoyed a song live more than studio (first being Voyager's Promise)
  • No complaints about Kouri ma.

is live now! I'll try to post to here, but I'll probably be posting on Bluesky as well if I don't.

Just heard the teaser for Olly's Eurovision song. It sounds very Years & Years which is unsurprising knowing who Olly is, but you can also tell it's a Danny L Harle prod. I think it'll shape up to be a great track, but I don't know how it'll fare on the day of the contest - whether it might alienate the "normie" Eurovision audience or how Olly is live.

That being said, ever since 2021 the BBC has been going in a much better direction for Eurovision entries than before and this is just continuing that upwards trend for me IMO.

Listening to Bambie Thug's (Ireland 2024) EP that has Doomsday Blue in it and I was NOT expecting hyperpop rap.

@gamingonlinux they do that and then wonder why people aren't joining the fediverse and/or call it social media for linux nerds lol

@volpeon In the UK, GLS and Hermes would be switched. GLS orders get handled by Royal Mail once they reach the UK, and they are fairly decent.
