volpeon,

I find it hard to grasp that people would choose a social network without custom emojis, DMs and video support over the fediverse

@volpeon As someone who uses both, I can see why. Bluesky made it really easy for people to get on-board, with its familiarity and not introducing federation immediately so people weren't getting confused. The fediverse has issues with choice paralysis and federation not working properly (either accidentally or deliberately). Not everyone's nerds like us and they have a much lower tolerance for learning curves and problems like what I stated.

This is a really good post outlining the issues Bluesky users had with the fediverse. This was during the invite-only phase of Bluesky, which meant people mentioned on the post had tried the fediverse - specifically Mastodon - and then disliked it so much they went out of their way to replace it with a service that was closed-off and invite-only.

@volpeon Yeah, to me it seems like choosing GnuSocial from 2010.

@volpeon And no polls - but „it is a one stop solution“ and „it is special due to the invitation system“ yadda yadda
