FlickOfTheBean,

“Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis said, “I am proud of the vigilant and quick response of MPD officers who mitigated a potential mass shooting situation today.””

I feel like the cops are giving themselves too much credit here. Mitigating the potential mass shooting event to me means preventing the shooter from shooting at the school… I mean good on them for catching him quickly though, that is good work and I try to give credit where it’s due despite generally not appreciating cops, but mitigating the attack is not what they did there…

At least by my layman definitions. Does mitigate mean something else in cop talk?

I guess they could be saying there was potential of him going somewhere else and doing a mass shooting there, so maybe that’s what they mean?

FlickOfTheBean,

That’s fair, but then in this context, how does mitigating apply?

Is it because they made it less severe somehow? Or this is just from a pure risk assessment standpoint? As in, they mitigated a potential threat to the public?

Ok, yeah I think that last one makes sense if that’s what you’re meaning. (I think my issue may be pedantic af but this is what it looks like when I’m intentionally trying to not be a definition stickler lol)

FlickOfTheBean,

Which is super fucked up because, if I recall correctly, the Black Panthers were formed because the cops would not do their basic duties for Black civilians. They were the police for their own communities in addition to protecting their communities from the cops.

I lack in good history knowledge in this area, but I think that backstory adds a particular shine to that fact. If I’m wrong about specifics, feel free to correct me though.

FlickOfTheBean,

I was about to argue the term mediocre to describe the ice cream, but then I realized, the flavor that I loved was the fact that it either meant school was almost out or it was currently summertime more than anything else

the best flavor is always nostalgia of good times

Heat wave puts over two-thirds of U.S. population under heat alerts (www.axios.com)

A heat wave that has stifled the southern tier of the U.S. for weeks has expanded into the Plains, Midwest and now the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Thursday, triggering heat alerts for over 227 million people, according to the National Weather Service.

FlickOfTheBean,

Huh this is the first thing I’ve read that puts it into a sort of understandable perspective (eternally recovering from my conservative raised childhood, maybe sane people explain it better in general)

FlickOfTheBean,

Unless this is just for identifying social norms violations in written communication for the purpose of government to government communication, this seems vastly… Infeasible, I guess. Because norms change over time, and you’re going to have to be updating this model when it’s finally noticed that a change has occurred. If anything, it might generate a completely new form of grammar/phrasing expectations due to the feedback from this likely-to-not-change-very-much ruleset… As in, if you thought politically correct phrasing was annoying now, just wait until the ai says you’re not doing it well enough.

Idk though, this isn’t my specialty area, anyone care to tell me how I’m wrong? What good can this really do?

(I swear I did read the article, it just isn’t clicking over the sound of my loud pessimism)

FlickOfTheBean,

You got a good enough idea: that humans embody the demonic ideas and essentially become the demon they act out while they act it out. I can agree with that but not in a literal sense, only figuratively/metaphorically.

Your inflexibility makes your illustration very fragile though. Insisting you mean literally in the dictionary sense will break your idea over from “ok, sure maybe” into “this fellow’s mind may not be fully functioning as it normally would”

I’m not here to call you names like conspiracy theorist, but you’re insisting in the same style as one, which is a major turn off.

That said, ideas live longer than man, that is easily seen. The fascism you’re talking about is just that, weird fascist leavings of some of the worst parts of our society that have been left alone to simmer for too long now. What do you think about that? It being political rather than it being demons?

FlickOfTheBean,

Well, not gonna lie, I wasn’t expecting to be insulted. If you’re just going to question my intelligence when I try to engage in good faith with what you posted, you would have done better to have just not responded.

There’s a “mystical stuff that only I can understand so I won’t bother explaining” air that you have about your reasoning that is very representative of people who have nothing to back up what they’re trying to say. I’m calling you out as ignorant of what you’re saying now, partially because I’m annoyed at you, partially because I’m pretty certain you can not coherently put a narrative together that will make any sense.

That’s a direct challenge to you to tell your story and theories. If you don’t want to, that’s totally fine, you don’t have to, but don’t insult my intelligence when I’m trying to give you so many benefits of the doubt that you’ve done nothing to earn.

FlickOfTheBean,

Oh, I see your reading style now, that is certainly not ideal…

I told you why I got annoyed with you: because you insulted my intelligence. Do you think the quote was the insulting part? It wasn’t, it was the “check yourself before you wreck yourself” you brought out in your first line.

Let’s try this again:

I think your ideas are wrong. I want you to show me how I’m wrong. You are engaging in an argument instead of showing me your ideas. This is not what I want nor what I am interested in.

I don’t care about this particular conversation, we can stop having it when/if you decide to start telling me why you believe these things.

Like damn, dude, can you not see I’m trying to get why you have the position you have?

So you’re annoying to me. Big fucking deal. Does it not mean anything that I’m still trying to engage with your ideas despite you constantly twisting away to say more inexplicably cryptic stuff? Stop engaging with this pointless internet argument and tell me something interesting, please!

I swear, the worst I have to offer is a “that’s interesting” and then I’ll be on my way.

FlickOfTheBean,

Not quite yet, because you’ve still failed to give yourself a position.

You’re focusing too much on this argument.

You’ve yet to have a position which would kick off the conversation I tried and am still trying to have with you.

You have done pretty much nothing this argument but glom on to key words and completely ignore every request I’ve sent you to tell me anything worth anything, which does not bode well for your reading comprehension abilities, which is probably why you’re bored right now.

If you’re so bored, then change this into a conversation about what you believe. And not about me, I don’t give a shit about me, which you seem to be overly focused on, I’m talking about demons.

So I’ll ask you directly: what is your full position on demons? How do they work, how do they operate, what’s their motivation? Are they purely human generated? Are you unable to say because people will come after you? Is that why you keep twisting away and ignoring what I’m requesting from you?

FlickOfTheBean,

Ohhh rip,I read this right after I responded lol oh well. Fun enough while it lasted. I do enjoy collecting different theories about how the spiritual world works, that one felt like it could be some feels logic which is why I kept wanting to dig at it.

There’s nothing wrong with being spiritual but I do think there’s something to uncover if you’re not able to articulate what you believe while professing to know how things supposedly work. I figured they were either completely full of it or had something waaaay different story-wise than most people.

Given that they were starting to connect demons to daemons, I’m thinking it was likely the second option.

Tldr; thanks for the heads up! It was fun while it lasted 😆

FlickOfTheBean,

(Totally unrelated, but I keep seeing you around and I’m curious about why you sign your name. Is your account shared? Feel free to ignore if you don’t want to answer Im just curious)

FlickOfTheBean,

Ohh I see! I appreciate you answering when you didn’t have to! See you around! :)

FlickOfTheBean,

What’s ai generated about it? Or rather why does it matter if the prop for a joke is ai generated or not?

FlickOfTheBean,

Oh sorry, I didn’t actually realize I was reading into that a judgement that wasn’t there. I thought you were implying it was a bad/valueless joke because it used generated art.

Totally agree with it being a janky vibe though. Feels a bit cursed haha

FlickOfTheBean,

I want to argue a nuance that toxic overcompetativeness is a meta issue in gaming, not a direct issue with competitive games. Like it’s just as toxic to be like overly competitive with casual shit, though you’re more likely to be called out as the insane person you are if you’re being toxic over say something like animal crossing than if you’re playing league.

I do agree with what you’re saying though, it probably should just say toxic gamers to cover all of that because this is the internet and nuance has no transmission ability here.

(Tldr; yeah, it probably should)

Going from Tears of the Kingdom to Far Cry 5 is...quite an experience

I’ve played other Ubisoft games before, most recently AC Odyssey. Been on a Switch kick for a minute and smashed 200 hours in TOTK, potentially one of my favorite games ever at this point. But I wanted to switch it up and go through some of my PC backlog so I started up Far Cry 5....

FlickOfTheBean,

Oh no! Far Cry 5 is in my backlog and nearing my play point! While I personally have no issue with the play style of AC Odyssey (I do like that game a lot) I see how that can be a startling similarity. Any tips on making the play through better? First one appears to be don’t use a game pad as not all the buttons work out of the box lol

That aside, I’d say it’s almost unfair to compare a PC AAA title from years ago to a Nintendo AAA title of today. From what I’ve read at the very least, there’s been a big push to get away from mechanics of the older gens recently, so I wonder if that’s what you’re picking up on.

Then again, it could just be recycled engines that’s going on… I’m no expert here, just a speculator :)
