FlorianSimon,

FlorianSimon,

In today’s episode of “Things That Never Happened”:

Billion dollar developer lawsuit to proceed, despite Apple objection (9to5mac.com)

The £785M ($979M) antitrust lawsuit was filed on behalf of more than 1,500 British developers, and alleges that Apple’s monopolistic control of the market for iPhone apps allowed the company to charge ‘abusive’ levels of commission on app sales …

FlorianSimon,

By law, consent can’t be given for certain things. To take an extreme example: you can’t consent to being shot in the head. Anyone who shoots you for no reason is guilty of a crime, even if you have a signed contract.

Whether or not Apple’s practices constitue a violation serious enough to nullify the agreement they have with developers remains to be seen.

FlorianSimon,

No VB6 either 🤷‍♂️

How can one write a kernel without using VB6 at all?

FlorianSimon,

It was peak pricing at the time. That’s how I understand it.

FlorianSimon,

French also has courgette, which also designates zucchinis 😁

Finally someone with a point of view that is not incredibly bigoted.

I’d just add that we shouldn’t be tricked by social media. Obese people, by and large, know all too well how being obese is a health condition. Not a lot of people are delusional enough to believe that being obese is worth celebrating, unless they’re on Facetagram.

FlorianSimon,

It’s disturbing how being fatphobic is not a red flag like any other form of bigotry in this comment section.

FlorianSimon, (edited )

Obese people are not all anthropomorphic trucks. Some of the obese people you caricature work very physical jobs, and work harder than you ever will in that cushy office job of yours (if applicable, but given that we’re on Lemmy… Chances are that it applies).

The first step towards not being a bigoted asshole is to look at reality as it is. Obese people are very diverse, there’s degrees in obesity. Some of them - mostly on MTV - are pathologically consuming heaps of unhealthy foods and look like balls of flesh straight out of a freak show. Others… don’t. Most of the real obese people I know get out of bed, go to work every morning and have fairly normal lives. My next-desk colleague even goes to the gym twice a week.

But yeah, in the mind of the dim-witted and the fatphobic cave dwellers, “being obese funny”.

FlorianSimon,

You need to go out and meet them. I promise it’ll be eye-opening.

FlorianSimon,

The extension ecosystem is absolutely amazing. I really love it!

FlorianSimon,

There’s no nuance here. This cartoon is not antisemitic in the slightest. Criticizing the action of the Israeli army is not racism/xenophobia.

FlorianSimon,

Back when I was writing PHP for a living (which was a looong time ago), we used to call the view part whatever HTML template we were filling with the controller and sending to the user. No idea if that’s what’s being referred to, the meme has a big “IDK-what-I’m-talking-about” energy.

FlorianSimon,

Yet another war crime apologist!

See, a war crime is when Americans kill civilians. China and Russia are allowed to kill civilians, that’s different.

At least you probably understand why you and your scummy lookalikes can’t convince anyone.

FlorianSimon,

I had to look up what IINM means. For anyone wondering, it means “If I’m Not Wrong”.

Not sure this is worthy of an acronym, but that’s your choice! I just wanted to contribute context for people like me.

FlorianSimon,

It’s the first time I see it, but that doesn’t mean it’s uncommon! 🙂

FlorianSimon,

Isn’t that the whole point of Life of Brian?

FlorianSimon,

Shoo, incels. Women might be pissed when you approach them, and might insult you, but that’s about it, unless you actually assault them.

They actually have a lot of trouble making cops move their butts when actual rape is committed, so nothing important is going to be done about guys hitting on girls 🙄

Leave your incel talking points at the door.

FlorianSimon, (edited )

Married men can (and often are) misogynist pigs. You may not be an incel, but get your facts straight.

Funny you should mention reality. Isolated facts happen, but they’re not characteristic of a larger reality that the poor men are oppressed by women. In fact, the opposite oppression exists in a systematic way: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_harassment, www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/…/00017-eng.htm

Crybabies. Don’t be a creep, and you’ll be alright. Open streets are not the right place to pick up women minding their own business. And even if you do it, the worst you’re likely to get is an insult, meaningless anecdotes aside, because cops are fucking useless.

FlorianSimon, (edited )

What business does a man married for 30y have in talking about seduction? You clearly haven’t spoken to actual women in a while to seduce them, by your own admission further down in the discussion thread, and you’re spreading FUD about things you haven’t experienced. Stay on your lane. The world doesn’t need your misogynist ramblings. We all have uncles at Christmas dinners for that, thank you very much.

Fragile crybabies.

Germany Is Seizing Jews’ Money Again: It’s fine, they’re pro-Palestine (novaramedia.com)

A pro-Palestine Jewish activist group has had its bank account frozen in Germany for the second time in seven years, after the bank requested a full list of its members’ details in what experts believe is a breach of German law. The group suspects the move was triggered by its involvement in a forthcoming pro-Palestine...

FlorianSimon,

The archwiki is a great Linux resource, even for non-arch folks!

FlorianSimon,

The topic of discussion is how to prevent them from doing any harm, rather than which space crocodile is secretly controlling us with mind-control lasers, or whatever their lunacy-of-the-day may be. This is a win. They’re being exposed without giving them the satisfaction of censoring them. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences.

This is not high-school debate club. Anyone with a modicum of media litteracy knows you don’t give a platform to Russian shills, or anyone peddling any kind of similarly lunatic propaganda for that matter. If you want to know more, read their post history. The reason that you don’t do that is that the minute they get sufficient mindshare, they’ll be more than happy to bend the rules of civil discussion. We’re talking about people defending China and its censorship, after all.

And look, you’re more than welcome to criticize American imperialism and liberal hypocrisy. But shilling for authoritarian regimes is a red line any leftist worthy of the name should not cross.

FlorianSimon,

On a pas mal juste bâtardisé ou transformé des mots qui viennent d’ailleurs, notamment du latin. Le français c’est juste un échelon dans la généalogie. Pas de quoi se sentir supérieur 😉
