how do you use your screen space?

i've been thinking of what the most efficient way to use your monitor or screen space is? do you usually just use windows that cover the whole screen? or how do you divide your windows and apps on the screen? do you leave for example firefox window cover the whole screen? and just alt + tab to other programs or apps?

Depends on the apps I use. Obviously gaming has to be full screen, and since my laptop screen is small, I usually maximize windows when using certain apps that require large space such as Libreoffice, Firefox, Inkscape, etc.

For a few other apps, such as text editors, I usually divide the screen into two. Typically I have file explorer or music player on one side and text editors on the other.

Of course, what would be more efficient to you pretty much depends on your screen size, screen shape/ratio, and the apps you open.

I (MtF) also on a similar boat, only having male sonas until I actually realize I'd rather be a girl. Having assigned-gender fursona did help with dysphoria, though, as he helped me project myself into a character that's my distinctly not me.

I wasn't myself, I was my male fursona. That sort of dissociation helped me cope with dysphoria up until I realized myself as transgender. So, yeah, I had a fursona that was my birth sex before I discovered myself.

Funnily enough, when I designed my first fursona, I made his color white and pink because I wanted to subtly rebel gender roles at the time. I didn't think of it much aside from messing with gender roles, but looking back, that could've been a sign.

To add to my post. While my old fursona was initially male along with my birth gender, within the few months before my egg cracked, I sort of experimented with making a new raccoon girl sona.

My raccoon girl sona, along with egg_irl, was what helped me crack my egg.

Usually the entire soundtrack of the Ori series: Ori and the Blind Forest & Ori and the Will of the Wisps. In particular, my favorites to calm down is "Separated by the Storm" and "Ori, Embracing the Light"

Basically, write them as if they're humans with animal traits? Seems like a good idea

I'm not exactly the oldest fur around, but I've been a furry for a long time and there's many advice I could've given to younger me.

I have a few, but it mostly boils down to: don't make being a furry a big deal. Just relax.

More specifically:

  • Being a furry is just a hobby. You don't need to "come out" as a furry or tell anyone. And in most cases, there's nothing wrong with your friends knowing that you're a furry, it's not a shameful secret you need to hide as if it's a fetish (just don't let your future employers know). Use a furry wallpaper or furry profile picture if you want to and where it's appropriate. Of course, with furries being generally seen in negative lights, some caution need to be exercised, and some people may treat you being a furry very badly. Use your own judgement, but for the most part, it's less of a big deal than I expected.
  • Don't worry about all the hatred. Younger me have seen so many furry hate comments, especially around the "gamers vs furries" time, that she wanted to quit the fandom out of fear. But really, all those hate comments are mostly made by children trying to look cool by attacking a punching bag. It's mostly empty threats. Just ignore the haters and trolls making fun of you for being a furry and bee yourself. Don't let fear consume you.
  • Don't worry about how unique your fursona is. Younger me was afraid that her fursona is not unique enough or that someone might have a similar looking fursona, but I don't care now. Your fursona should reflect what you like, not what is the most unique. If you'd prefer a vanilla looking fursona, that's fine. If you'd like your fursona to be a polar bear with purely white fur, go ahead. You don't need to add additional pattern to make it more stand out, unless that's really what you want.
  • Fursona can be changed anytime, so don't worry about picking the wrong one. Explore around and try out fursona designs you'd like. If you already have a fursona but want to change it, that's fine. But be aware that any art or fursuits made for your old fursona won't magically change to your new ones, so do take deep consideration about your fursona before making an expensive art commission or a fursuit.

That's all I can say for now.

You add alt text in the post description, that's it. I don't think lemmy supports proper alt text like mastodon yet, so you have to use the post description.

For now, maybe lemmy will implement alt text someday.

YSK: Googling for terms on all lemmy domains

Why YSK: Searching topcs on reddit was simple matter of entering desired term and prepending or appending keyword reddit. With lemmy's decentralised structure finding particular topic without knowing to which, or rather if even there is community dealing with such topic(s) can be a headache inducing hurdle. So appending simple:...

If you use firefox, you can use extensions to add any lemmy instances as a search engine options. Then, simply add an @ shortcut to the lemmy search engine options, and you'll have the ddg equivalent of bangs in your firefox search bar.

Firefox does allow you to change search engine straight from the search bar by typing @ shortcut. An example of this by default, typing @ddg on firefox makes you search with duckduckgo instead of your default search engine.

Keep in mind that you have to type the shortcut on the searchbar first, before typing anything else.

I don't know, ask u/spez who seems adamant to keep the sub open

Someone, if I'm not mistaken, have made something to help convert any reddit client to a lemmy client. I don't remember though...

In the end it seems like Lemmy is going to be like Linux. A small userbase but dedicated one, and the community and website should hopefully catch up soon the same way Linux improved over the last few decades.

And like Linux on desktop, our marketshare might be small, but it should be more than enough to keep us going. Linux don't need to dominate the desktop market for us to use it, neither does this website.

The large variety of body shapes (and sizes depending on worldbuilding) is why I like the idea of anthrophomorphic animals and furries. There's so many things to consider, especially if you go to the deep end.

FlowerTree,
@FlowerTree@pawb.social avatar

No idea, really. I don't think tailbag is going to work, so maybe tail bowtie?

FlowerTree,
@FlowerTree@pawb.social avatar

Reddit would definitely not let us make posts about that. If they go as far as hijaking moderators, do you think they won't go as far as ban anyone who mentioned lemmy?

FlowerTree,
@FlowerTree@pawb.social avatar

To be fair, even if reddit does nothing to r/piracy, we're still better off moving ship. Our reddit community is already dangling on the edge with serious threat of being banned anyway.

It's worth building this community here just to mitigate the risk

FlowerTree,
@FlowerTree@pawb.social avatar

Yeah. I get that.

I'm also an otherkin, an anthrophomorphic raccoon girl. And sometime I wish I could be that irl...

But in the post, I thought a fox would've been more subtle and more relatable than a raccoon.

Also, on every instance, there is a link called 'instance'. It contains information about which lemmy instance is federated and banned by your instance.
