I’m not a programmer, but I have quite a few non-programming related projects. Sure, it’s not a programming project, but maybe some of the rule could apply.

I usually name my project as:

  • Literal description of what it is (i.e. “raccoon story” for a story about raccoons)
  • The first point but in a foreign language, usually German (i.e. “Waschbär Gesichte”) just to make it more spicy.
  • More likely than above, random words or phrases, usually the first thing I think.
  • Random gibberish.
  • And best of all: Untitled [number]
  • I also name some of my projects like I’m naming a variable.

Does your last goat match your current preferred gender, or are they based on your old/assigned gender?

Does your fursona always match your preferred gender?

Also, a goat fursona. Very interesting. I’m sure your new fursona will be the GOAT!

It was certainly interesting to hear the perspective from an older trans person, from an era where being trans is largely unknown and considered weird.

I suppose it’s nice to see how times have changed now, with how many people-- but especially so furries-- are now able to express their gender and being proud and accepting of who they are, even more so for non-binary people!

I never consciously decided on the color change, she just started having the transiest possible color scheme whenever I doodled her, which was kind of hilarious in retrospect

In retrospect, my old fursona also had a rather interesting color. Like you, he was male before I cracked my gender. Yet, I made my fursona white and pink because I wanted him to look more feminine. I don’t even know why I wanted him to be feminine, and I wouldn’t know until later.

The breaking point was when I made a second fursona that was femboy, by then my egg finally cracked.

how on earth you managed to avoid saying “oh I’m trans!”

I thought I was being contrarian, making male fursona with feminine color because I thought having normal colors would be too mainstream.

To be fair, I made my fursona more masculine eventually… up until my egg crack when it started to turn 180°

The hardest part of it was, I was afraid that I would look back at my past art and cringe about how bad it was. But I knew I wouldn’t improve if I was afraid of trying…

Quite a lot, actually:

  1. The rule. As the sidebar states, You must post before you leave. If you visit this sub, you must post. No such rules exist on !random.
  2. This community seems to focus more on memes than random@kbin.social, which is more random in terms of content. Everything that doesn’t fit in other kbin.social magazine goes to random, but 196 isn’t completely random as you rarely finds discussions such as this post.
  3. The culture. Historically, 196 has heavy ties with transgender subculture since it was still on Reddit, and it still is to this day. This community is hosted on lemmy.blahaj.zone which is primarily centered around gender diverse and other LGBTQ folk. Random@kbin.social is hosted on a more general instance. There’s a lot of memes here which trans people could relate, and many-- if not most-- people here are transgender.
Kbinknot, to random

OK I feel really stupid asking this. I have a app installed on my android phone called /kbin. It has the logo of this site, seems legit and is functioning fine. When I go to view details of the app in the google play store (which is where app details it says it was downloaded from), it cannot find it. It says 'something went wrong'. Google search is failing me. Was there a mobile app removed from the Google Play app store? Is there a way I can track this down further? Thanks!

It's possible that the app is a web-app created by Google Chrome. Practically, it's a shortcut to the website version on Chrome. Since kbin is a progressive web apps (PWAs), its Chrome home screen shortcut can look and feel like a proper app.

One way to check is by long pressing the app icon on the home screen. If there's an option called "site settings" with a cog icon, then it's probably a Chrome shortcut/PWAs.

Edit: extra info, clarification, grammar

With the vast majority of Lemmy users being refuges from Reddit, it's easy to see why "Reddit ded" circlejerk is strong. It's the most relatable thing to everyone here, as nearly everyone here can relate. Not to mention it's the only thing that unites us as it is the only thing we have in common, regardless of which community you used to belong to on Reddit.

But, I do see those posts less and less. As time went by, I'm sure people will move on from the circlejerk (probably to another circlejerk, but at least they do move on).

When it comes to the lack of content, that's due to the lower number of users. It's hard to say if whether it'll get better as it depends on which kinds of content you are looking for.

But if you want more content, try sorting by new. Reddit death content will usually get more upvotes as it relates to more people than any other content, but the "new" sorting should eliminate this bias.

Features & Changes For The New Pawb.Social Lemmy Fork

Now that Pawb.Social has forked Lemmy, I thought it would be appropriate to go ahead and compile a list of changes or additions that have been suggested, or that have been spotted by others or myself. This is hardly a comprehensive list, and down below will be two comments by me, one for changes to back-end changes or additions...

I have an idea, but I'll be honest, I don't know the difficulty of this idea. For back end & front end: The ability to sort communities into groups (similar to multireddit).

I also wonder how we'll implement all the changes on pawb.social to existing apps such as jerboa. While pawb should still be usable through the apps, features that don't exist upstream probably won't be available on the app either. We could fork these apps, but that would take too much resources.

I think we can simplify your idea as a setting or toggle to allow user to enable or disable NSFW on "Local," "Subscribed," and "All" feed separately.

To add to that, a simple NSFW toggle above the feed (such as near the sort options) should help, so user can enable and disable NSFW with one click on the feeds page, instead of having to go through settings. I don't really like seeing nsfw posts when I'm not in the mood.

This appears to be a duckduckgo bug. Peertube shows up in ddg for me, but I've had a few simple searches that randomly gives no results in ddg. I usually switch to ecosia when ddg gives no results.

I thought I was in furry_irl. But why not, why wouldn't I upvote a post with cute dogs.

People feel that "cis" is a slur because it puts them on equal footing with trans people.

They prefer to consider themselves "normal" while "trans" people the weird ones whom can only be labelled with anything other than "normal." Being called "cis" makes them feel as if they can also be labelled as something other than "normal."

FlowerTree,
@FlowerTree@pawb.social avatar

To be fair, "cis" comes from latin which means "on the same side of," in contrast to "trans" which means "on the other side of."

Why use that instead of non-trans? I don't know, but yeah, I don't think the word is a slur.

Given how little activities there are on most lemmy posts, I usually comment everytime I find a post worth commenting.

I usually decide whether to comment or not based on comment count instead of time. I'll happily comment on weeks or months old post if it only had one or two comments, but skip over hours old post if it already has plenty of comments.
