Every car I have ever owned since I started driving in the 1990s, I have driven until I can’t anymore. Either they got too old and broke down or something was just so expensive to fix that it wasn’t worth it or someone totaled it. All of them have been bought used as well. And I plan to do it again with my 2016 Prius. I’d love to own an EV, but no way am I going to look into getting one until the Prius isn’t driveable any longer. If that’s more than 12.6 years, so be it.

I can understand the lure of buying a new car. They’re neat and shiny and have features your car doesn’t. But it’s so wasteful and unnecessary. It’s not like upgrading a computer because it won’t work with any modern software and you won’t be able to use the internet. A model A Ford can drive on the same roads as a Tesla assuming it’s been maintained.

I have a vague memory of that and I have a feeling it would be a massive ecological catastrophe.

Then again, Earth had already gone through a nuclear war, so whatever.

Where do we ship the Clockwork Orange eyelid clamps?

That and we’re currently using the Appalachians for something.

There was a book about that. It did indeed result in a new continent in the Atlantic. Then all the people Europe colonized rise up and kill all the Europeans and take over that continent, the end.

I enjoyed it.

I wouldn’t call creating some artificial islands with sand is ‘literally’ doubling the size of a continent into the ocean.

Coming out of the trees was a mistake.

That person is disturbingly dedicated to smoking.

Like someone with that much political shit on their car is crazy to begin with, but it’s almost all about smoking. What the fuck?

The only way to truly be safe is to put your router in a Faraday cage.

Always was. This country was founded by people who were okay with owning other people as property.

Which never deserves shitting on since it’s a marvelous place that only does good for its citizens and the world!

It’s only absurd if you don’t consider taxation of the rich a geopolitical issue.

But I would suggest most people here do not share that belief.

Which is the country that by far has the most billionaires?

Go ahead and look it up, I’ll wait.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Actually, I said it was a geopolitical issue. Do keep up.

FlyingSquid,

Yeah, but the spheres are usually pretty interesting.

Riker tells the computer to keep internal sensors locked on him at all times when he is on the Enterprise.

You never know when he might do something that he can relive on the holodeck later.

This isn’t a dog whistle. Dog whistles are things that are not supposed to be noticed by everyone else but understood by the rank and file. This is just coming right out and saying, “yep, we’re Nazis.”

I speak for no one but myself, but as an atheist, I’d like to live a very long life since I don’t think there’s anything for me after it ends.

FlyingSquid,

I have absolutely nothing to take credit for regarding this.

You’re welcome.

FlyingSquid,

I admit nothing.

There were, and are, funny conservative comedians. Norm McDonald is the first one who comes to mind, but there have been others.

Examples would be P. J. O’Rourke, Rodney Dangerfield, Joan Rivers, Jeff Foxworthy, Louie Anderson, and my personal favorite, Mike Nelson of Rifftrax and MST3K.

The thing is, none of those comedians were especially political with their humor, or if they were, they hit everyone’s politics, and none of them punched down. They aren’t really conservative comedians, they’re comedians who happen to be conservative.

It’s not that conservative comedians aren’t funny, it’s that what a conservative audience now considers comedy is just someone being mean.
