I know, but I had to share it anyway.

There needs to be one for Samantha Wildman. Also the Romulan on the Defiant.

Five angry Fox News hosts think the popular board game Scrabble is too “woke” because — in addition to banning racist and anti-LGBTQ+ slurs — a new version focuses more on having fun with friends than on competitive scoring.

Damn right! What the fuck is even the point of a board game if you can be racist while you gloat after destroying all other players?

That’s also the point of Monopoly, which is why it is the best board game ever and everyone loves it.

Edit: Also-

Co-host Greg Gutfeld replied, “So is life!” before admitting that he has never played Scrabble.

Of course not. Why would he play that particular game when he knows he’s too stupid to ever destroy all other players and then gloat about it?

You just used a word they couldn’t spell even if they had the Scrabble tiles.

And I’m sure you guessed the word I mean: play.

Also, I would definitely play “woke” Scrabble before I ever played Scrabble: The Presidential Edition. Which is a real board game I posted about not too long ago: lemmy.world/post/13734442

I’ve played Scrabble for decades and I didn’t even know there were any slurs allowed. Never in any game I have ever played do I remember a slur. Not even when playing against a computer. That’s how “woke” they’ve made this new version!

Edit: After some searching, I found out that they only banned the N-word in tournament play in 2020. What the fuck, Hasbro? dicebreaker.com/…/scrabble-community-bans-offensi…

My father got a PhD in English. We literally had an unabridged OED in the house. He did not play Scrabble, but the OED got used on a regular basis by the rest of us. Although we did eventually moved to the unabridged Webster’s because of debates over American vs. British spellings went on too long.

Also, my mother is an evil Scrabble player and no one will play with her anymore. One of those “if I can’t have a triple word score, no one can. Oh wait, I figured out how I can get one if I completely fuck you over, so I’m going to do that” sort of evil Scrabble players.

InfoWars is involved in the suit too.

Looks like Alex Jones has learned nothing. That, or he has no control over his hosts. Either way, I guess he’s about to lose even more money.

You’d think after a billion dollar judgment even a stupid person would tell his people, “don’t say anything that could get us sued anymore.”

But I guess not.

I’m a skeptic, but if CNN is trying to convince me that there aren’t vampires in Italy, they’re doing a terrible job.

I think that cost of living is a huge part of it, but another huge part of it is loneliness. We’ve become a society where no one talks to each other. Everyone is sealed off in their own little bubble- in their homes, in their cars, and if, god forbid, they have to walk, wearing earbuds. Sure, you can talk online like we’re doing, but that’s not the same thing at all.

If only we had politicians with the balls to actually do something.

I’m not trying to be gatekeepy. I would be okay if this show if it wasn’t going to soon apparently be the only Star Trek show other than maybe Prodigy, something else that is there just for young viewers. The long-term legacy of Star Trek should not rest on the shoulders of a YA show and a kids animated show.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I should add that a YA show about Starfleet Academy sounds like a way to save a hell of a lot of money on effects. No strange new worlds, no new life and new civilizations. Because cadets don’t leave the academy until their senior year.

This whole thing, to me, says “we’ve found a demographic we can tap into and save money in the process” and not “we need to make good Star Trek.”

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Last I heard it was up in the air whether or not Netflix would keep funding it.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

They have not, but do you really think it will continue past season 5?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

As I said below, it feels like a money saver and a way to appeal to an untapped demographic, not a way to make good Star Trek. If it’s good despite that, great. But I don’t think it will be. I don’t even blame anyone involved with the actual production. This is Paramount killing its own brand because they think it will get younger people to sign up for Paramount+.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think I have the faith in Paramount not self-sabotaging itself in a combination of desperation to get people to sign up for Paramount plus and saving money.

Star Trek might bounce back eventually, but I think this era is likely coming to a slow stop.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I would definitely not complain about that.

Thanks, I appreciate it! And yeah, I have a hard time recognizing usernames too.

Hawaii is "on the verge of catastrophe," locals say, as water crisis continues (www.cbsnews.com)

In Hawaii, one of the most important sayings is ola i ka wai, “water is life” — a phrase that not only sums up what it means to exist on an island, but what it means to live, period. But now, one of the largest of the island chain’s land masses is facing a triple threat to its sole freshwater source, and if it isn’t...

It’s not my fault that your definition excluded women who had a uterus at one time but didn’t later.

How about women who have two X chromosomes but were born without a uterus? Not women?
