I'll probably still want to play Wrath, Graven, and Phantom Fury but just because I have a soft spot there. I do not recommend those specific titles generally.
One of my top favorite NES games that really showcases what Kirby is all about. Consuming the enemy, acquiring their power, coming up with a variety of ways to go through levels and solve the mystery of a broken Star Rod.
I like the wheel, the hammer, and the UFO. I mean they're all good except sleep. Mess around with minigames for extra lives and try to find those big switches eh?
Now you can play as Peach and Daisy as they rescue Mario and Luigi from Bowser and Tatanga.
Shoot your fireballs at an upwards angle, double jump with the cape. You also have your Mario 2 jumping what with the floating and the crouch charging jump. Level design accounts for all this of course.

Another journey with the Kongs. Cranky thinks you got off your first adventure too easy so he made a deal with K.Rool to abscond with your banana horde again, you know before DKC2 supposedly.
You can only save your game after you get all KONG letters in a level. Oddly this only of the DK Land games to you give you completely different environments in addition the old ones.
This game is similar to the Lotus series on the Amiga a computer console in Europe and yet many of the fans of this game are from South America. Yeah I don't know either.
Race around the world and be mindful of your remaining gas so that you know when to make a strategic pit stop. Use the nitrous at convenient moments.
Tracks change a bit per difficulty level for interesting replay value.
Be Wario. Be sucked into a music box, be asked to save someone and keep treasure along the way.
Every level has 4 treasures in it that you can only access after many of the treasures modify the world you are in. Wario's forms are numerous and you are never at risk of dying.
There's a number of ways to get to your final goal of all the music boxes you need.
A quaint little DOS shoot'em up by Pixel Painters Corporation.
It plays similar to Gradius but it seems way more fair (though if you crank the difficulty that's on you)
The eponymous Xatax are an alien species of some sort that consumes planetary resources and assimilates living things. Gee, I think I've seen this somewhere. (cough, Borg, cough)

Every so often there's a level where you just search around for the Dragon coins you need in a less linear level. Or sometimes you get a Wing Cap.
Robot creation is mainstream. Major countries from around the globe pit their creations into a robot tournament hosted by "Mr.X" I'm not even going to explain him.
Now you can merge with your dog for power punching and jetpacking.
There's also an energy balancer that better distributes weapon energy pickups.
