What are your favorite social minority characters in any form of fictional entertainment media, or how should a minority be written better?

It can be from any angle. Presently, I’m pondering what kind of context various LGBTQ+ characters can be written without making any kind of political statement, or rather, simply making a statement through normalization in a natural way. In other words, how do I empathize like the cool kids clique?...

Gnorv,

Anna or Drummer in The Expanse come to my mind. But I had to think a bit until they even came up in my mind as fitting into LGBTQ+, since they do not make this part of their personality. Other things define them way more than their sexuality or gender.

Gnorv,

I am playing Monkey Island, Balatro and Cyber Hook. I don’t think I need to introduce Monkey Island, so a bit about the other two.

Balatro is a card game, where you have to play pokerhands to reach increasingly higher scores. You can upgrade cards, get special effects and comboa going, all centered around the basic poker hands (pairs, flush, full house etc.) It is really fun for now, but I am not sure how long it will keep me.

Cyber Hook is a fast paced 3D platformer. Basically you are Spider Man, trying get through a level as fast as you can, swinging from structure to structure, running, jumping etc. It is inexpensive, bought it for ~2€ and it has a good set of mechanichs to make it not too complex but gives you a lot of possibilities to finish a level.

Gnorv,

I am just reading through the second book at the moment. I don’t fell like he is ever really calm

Gnorv,

Für mich liegt es daran, dass es Pfosten automatisch als gelesen markiert, und dann beim nächsten Öffnen der Anwendung versteckt.

Looking for a privacy focused travel assistant on mobile

Heya, as the title suggests. I have tried the KDE Initary (on mobile), but the user experience didn’t quite flop-my-mop. It is however the better one in terms of privacy as far as I have found. Are there any other ones that you folks know of and would recommend? Looking for an app that specifically can hold boarding passes....

Gnorv,

Does Joplin do what you need?

Gnorv,

There is also the option to selfhost a Joplin server, or pay the devs for Cloud Sync.

Gnorv,

Check out doghammer, they also sell some for reduced price if they were display models or similar.

Furthermore they offer a repair service for certain parts of the shoe. I have a pair, though I didn’t need the repair service yet, so cannot attest to that. I am using mines all year, even in (light) snow.

Gnorv,

You could also check out Lowa. I had a pair of them before my doghammers, and only replaced them after ~6 years because they got torn at the side.

They are a bit more expensive though…

Gnorv,

Some Distros come with Nvidia drivers preinstalled and I have heard people being succesful with them PopOS and Nobara come to mind. Nobara is very similar to Fedora, it is in fact based on it.

[Fixed] Jellyfin video stutters on some files (all MKV it seems)

Hello fellow selfhosters! I reformatted my USB hard drive from exFAT to XFS because I needed a filesystem that could handle hardlinks. I remounted the hard drive and now jellyfin webUI has a severe stuttering problem on some videos, all of them are MKV but it may be a coincidence. On android (using exoplayer) the same files...

Gnorv,

I had a similar problem. For me it was because some of the videos were encoded with x265 which some client devices could not decode properly. Therefore the server had to decode them but it was not fast enough to do it.

I guess that is why on the Android device the videos are smooth, it can handle the decoding.

Gnorv,

I did not really solve it. I looked around for a bit but found no good solution. The only thing that sort of worked was to copy the stream URL in Jellyfin and paste it into VLC Media Player, which could play the videos okay. But that was not really satisfactory for me.

In the end I installed a new OS on my PC which already came with the codecs to decode x265 preinstalled. I installed it for other reasons but it fixed also that issue and now I can play any video in the Jellyfin Media Player. I did not try if it also works in the browser. The OS I am now using is called Nobara.

Gnorv,

I do not think they are called drivers, but yes, installing the needed codecs should work. I just did not find out how to do it properly.

Gnorv,

To me it seems like not so harsh ciritisism, perfectly okay.

Gnorv,

In a non capitalistic future there would be other answers…

what are you looking for in the upcoming year(s) for osm?

My biggest wish is that there’s an easy way to contribute images to wikimedia and to link them easily with osm. As soon as that’s possible, we’ll map the world much quicker and more reliable. Someone might take pictures of benches and another one will add the info if there’s a backrest from home.
