At a glance I thought that was Steven Universe

This article is an excellent reminder that when someone says “we’ll adapt”, the “we” is their family and friends. It does not include you.

TL,DR: Putin doesn’t understand the difference between “discrimination” and “consequences”. He’s mad that people are treating his government negatively because he invaded Ukraine, so by quitting the Convention, he’s giving himself even more permission to be a brutal, authoritarian asshole.

According to Bloomberg, its [Shell’s] business plan “puts oil and gas front and center while giving low-carbon efforts a smaller supporting role,”

…the oil and gas giant set the task of ‘giving millennials a reason to connect emotionally with Shell’s commitment to a sustainable future.’

Wow, Shell. Fuck you too.

People (especially the rich old guys who make decisions like this) make the mistake of thinking that young people are dumb. They’re not. I hope this condescending attempt at manipulation turns into the well-publicized fiasco that it deserves to be.

I always appreciate interesting, relevant context. Thank you!

No need for the text at the top. The pic itself is great!

According to government data, about 245,000 illegal entries have been recorded in this region during the current fiscal year.

This is an extremely complex issue, but let’s just consider that number for a minute.

That’s about 671 people every day. About 28 each hour. Damn.

I’m just gonna leave it as a quote from the article. If the wording is messed up, it’s their problem. Good point, though!

Those bastards can’t speak American, and they’re taking all those jobs away that I’d never even consider doing!

People are allowed to make jokes, especially about things they can’t control directly. Read the room.

Whoops! Sorry.

Text can be tricky sometimes. Without tone of voice or body language, sometimes I don’t catch stuff.

Reread the last sentence of the comment you’re replying to.

No candidate will ever be ideal, and apathy just makes things easier for the worst ones. Get off your ass and vote.

I misunderstood. If you’re participating in the process and doing what you believe in, that’s cool.

Thank you, OP! I had almost forgotten about this. I was wondering how things were going!

I don’t think flying is the root of the problem.

But the IfW Kiel is allegedly insisting approval for his trip ran out on September 10 and he must return immediately by plane.

He should have been back weeks ago. They want him back quickly, not over a month from now. He’s already proven himself to be unreliable and unprofessional, so I’m not surprised the institute isn’t being more flexible than they already have been. He could have avoided flying by planning ahead. Jobs come with responsibilities.

He’s already been given several weeks of leeway, which is a LOT more than most of us could expect from our employers.

Tiny text. If you’re designing something for people beyond their mid twenties, don’t use anything less than a 12pt font.

But they should be used sparingly

Good. You get it.

I’m thinking about specific web pages that use very small text for the body of an article. Then, once I’ve adjusted my browser so it’s legible, the text on other websites is ridiculously big.

Sadists. Or perhaps I’m giving them too much credit. Maybe they’re just morons.

I wouldn’t so much as think of attending even if it was right in the next town, so okay. Do it. I’ll enjoy reading about what a disaster it was.

It’ll take a bit to get used to an environment where disagreements don’t have to become arguments, and simple misunderstandings aren’t personal attacks.

It’s nice when people give each other the benefit of the doubt.

Welcome to Lemmy, and good luck!
