There's a certain kind of person online that sees any kind of problem, barrier, whatever, as a game to win.
I need people to understand how childish this way of thought is. Not all "problems" are problems at all.
For instance: children on social media. I'm watching a thread of people discuss creating a masto instance built for kids. And despite being told how awful an idea that is by more than one person, they're still throwing ideas back and forth. Not a problem worth solving, yet they try.
And at a certain point that stops looking like a hard headed person trying to solve a problem, and starts looking like predation itself. Like I doubt any one of those people is a parent themself.
If you can't see how that's all creepy, you might just be a fuckin creep yourself.
Back when Altman was ousted from OpenAI, there was a very suspiciously timed story going round about an event where Altman was informed of "a major breakthrough" just before the shake up. It was very clear the intimation of this story was that the breakthrough was regarding AGI.
No one in the AI community questioned that line of reasoning, instead they reacted as religious believers do when they're told the second coming will be next month because Jesus appeared on toast.
Like religious believers, the AI community assumes it's on the way already. Therefore they won't ever question it, and when the big reveal never happens they just wait until the next suspiciously timed story to validate their preconceived ideas.
We know what that breakthrough was now.
Fucking generative video. That's it. That's all it was.
Just saw someone suggest writing in a candidate if you're ethically opposed to both Trump and Biden.
She suggested Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and said she herself would be writing in Taylor Swift this year, and in the future looking at AOC.
She insisted she was not burning her vote. She is though.
And the funny thing? ALL FOUR of her hopefuls endorsed Biden for president in 2020, and three have endorsed him for 2024 - we're expecting Taylor to speak up soon.
I say it again, not everyone out here saying "Genocide Joe" is a troll paid by the opposition fascists. Of course not, that's absurd.
But EVERY opposition troll paid by fascists is out here saying "Genocide Joe". Every. Last. One. That is a virtual guarantee.
It's hardly surprising too that it's always always always non-American, self-righteous, white people telling us to not to vote for Biden. Every fucking time.
I guess the masto server admin who spams AI images had a second thought this morning and he just made his own good morning graphic today instead of the typical AI.
Well? Good. Notch another win.
I don't care that he was a dick about it yesterday, I don't care if he thought I was being rude about pointing out the ethical problems of AI images. He changed his posting habit today. Someone told him a problem of his and he reflected and changed.
Ask a masto server admin if he's aware of the ethical concerns of the AI images he spams every day. He says "yes, ask me if I care" and suggests I block him. I say "Just wanted you to say it out loud before doing so".
Five minutes later, my IP gets DDOSed, and he has posted some "humble" tirade about being lectured and negative attitudes. 35 minutes later my ISP has switched my IP address and things work again.
Remember: admins of their own servers can see your public IP.
Bitter prick.
I'm not saying that every person saying "Genocide Joe" is part of a troll operation to get Trump elected again. I can't say that because it isn't true.
But I will say with great confidence that EVERY propaganda troll operation seeking to see Trump elected again is saying Genocide Joe. Every. Last. One. Count on it.
Propaganda that makes you feel self righteous when you repeat it is among the most effective propaganda that exists. And Bibi thanks you for blaming Biden.
It's really weird watching progressives suddenly forget all their old stances on gun control about how negligent homicides from guns should be penalized more heavily.
It's disappointing to watch.
I guarantee you guys, I guarantee it: replace Baldwin with some MAGA actor like Dean Cain and the tune would be real different. And that's disappointing to know.
When you find someone telling you not to vote for Trump OR Biden, make absolutely sure they give their alternative. Don't let them leave it at "neither of those two", we know that's just a silent endorsement of Trump. Make them give you the alternative because if you look closely, they really try to avoid providing one.
That says some things about their actual intentions doesn't it?
"Who I voted for is too personal to share" is what old, ashamed, white Republicans say to those who aren't.
Looking back at stories of 99 and the datetime apocalypse, and maybe it's because I just watched Oppenheimer last night, but it feels like the scale of effort and labor and money to stave off disaster in 99 was probably on par with The Manhattan Project. Albeit not done in secret, but a massively bigger undertaking. Global coordination down to minutes.
And then I got to thinking.
What if there were some group who spent billions making sure it didn't happen?
