Its not corporate owned , its community owned. Its distributed and all the eggs are not in one basket. There are no trackers or analytics or ads.

You can use any instance you like and any apps you like.

Did the reddit hivemind do a 180 or are the people left behind just the people who don't care.

Prior to the protest reddit was in full support of the protest. Most polls on subs supported a shutdown. Now, seemingly every community cant understand why the protest was needed and they're calling it a mod power trip. There is a 3rd possibility. This is an unfounded conspiracy but reddit themselves could be manipulating...

The best thing we can do is be active here. Make the effort to get involved, post , report idiots and be civil. This goes beyond reddit, it is about getting out from under the thumb of corporate control. We can't have free expression if the narritive is being controlled.

Also we have networks here we can draw upon, devs , artists , folks who make videos, people who write, etc we can. Ask them for help to create videos and promotional material to quickly explain the fediverse in a simple and concise way.

Yes exactly. Just like there are idiots in real life, we ignore them and move on. Everyone is entitled to an opinion even if we disagree with it. Sure people can spout some nonsense devoid of facts we can down vote if thats the case .

You might disagree with someone on politics but like the same sports team for example. There are humans on either side so like in real life we can get along and don't need to agree on everything.

If something is illegal or its hate speech or something like that then report and block the user and the content.

If you don't like a community you can block it but if we shut off instances all of the time I can guarantee you the fediverse will just turn into isolated echo chambers and we'll all be forced back to corporate walled gardens.

If we can coexist in real life we can coexist here.

We need our views challenged to grow. Being corrected is a good thing thats how we learn. Life is short at the end of the day let's not try to take it too serious.

Is it not a much more powerful message if the fediverse as a whole down votes the stuff into oblivion. If they are isolated it becomes an us vs them game with them playing the victim.

When they see that by and large they are ignored and downvoted they might grow up and realize they are acting like dicks.

They are just saying whatever to get a rise out of people like 4chan. The goal is chaos they want everyone to react and ban instances.

They don't magically go away when they are defederated. They will sign up to other open instances and plan their raids from the defederated one which we will have no visibility of. Then they can go from instance to instance causing chaos and breaking up the network as each one defederates.

Then you are back at square one where it is a user problem.

I'm not supporting this particular instance but its a problem that needs to be considered and defederation is a short term fix but will result it bigger problems down the line.

The blueprint is there to kill the network. Make a load of accounts, spam dumb shit until you are defederated... Rinse and repeat.

If you want an app I would recommend freeotp+ is on fdroid and you can export/import your settings for backup. I use sync thing for this. I

No I just opted for a 1tb sd card. It does the job. I have a 256gb model so I install a good few things and lots of Roms and uninstall when I've finished a game

I'm only watching it for McGregor and Chandler's interactions to be honest. Chandler is now 3-0. On the second episode McGregors team were all pouring pints. I don't think they are taking it serious at all.

And there are people on r/privacy saying here is bad for privacy. They don't understand. There are no trackers, ads or analytics here... We can verify this, look at brave shields, adguard home or pihole or ublock.

You can look at the network requests and the source code. It is user run vs corporate run. There is no board or shareholders to answer to.

The network is more resilient to shutdowns and a server going down won't take the whole network offline as the content can be distributed across instances.

You also have FOSS apps to access the service too.

You can be as anonymous as you want. Don't post real info and use tor or a VPN if desired but personally I trust the instance operators far more than I trust reddit, conde nast and whoever else they are in bed with.

On reddit they equate the federating of your posts here as anti privacy. When you post to reddit its shared with the internet and uneddit, google and whoever is training LLMs on the reddit data.

It goes back to the old days of don't put out what you don't want people to know.

Sure it has its own problems but we will figure them out in time. Its early days
