Honestly had a really weird introduction to my new iPad Pro. After the hour long data transfer was complete I tried using it but it was like walking through quicksand. Games were practically unplayable and video looked terrible.

I figured it was because it was still downloading and installing a ton of apps but even after that appeared done it was still doing it.

After a power cycle it’s running like a champ now. This screen is so gorgeous.

@MuseumShuffle I had that with my iPhone 15 Pro when I got it late last year. Along with a ton of heat as it was doing…something. Absolutely bizarre.

Continuing my slow introduction to and this morning I ran across this nice "Note" callout. I love notes for little insider info trinkets throughout documentation. Or for placeholders for my weekender hobbies so I know where to begin next time.

Got to these "big decisions" at about 1 AM last night, so decided it was better to stop before doing something in a sleep deprived haze.

I asked my kids to sort my DVDs alphabetically, and I am entertained by their incredibly inefficient sorting algorithm, which seems to mostly consist of reciting the alphabet a whole lot

We are looking for storage solutions for a current collection of about 10-15k blocks with a goal allowing a 4 year old to keep them organized and have easy play.

Thinking big stack of shallow tubs that slide out by color.

Thoughts?

@katerberg LEGO does make their own drawers and storage things, but that’s probably ill-suited to your particular use case (not to mention way too expensive for it)

It always feels strange being a person who loves video games, but hates boss fights. I have been absolutely loving Tears of the Kingdom and have sunk a ridiculous amount of hours into it.

This final boss fight is miserable.

@MuseumShuffle I had a similar experience. I don’t think I want to do it again because of it, while BotW I was fine with the final boss fight.

My oldest stopped playing TotK because of that final boss fight, though. It was just too hard for them, because they can’t do the dodge or parry stuff at all. Kinda sucks that it’s all gated behind “can you do this mechanic well” rather than having multiple options like the entire rest of the game

@MuseumShuffle Exactly! I'm really bad at fighting, and tend more to approach it from a "be overpowered and brute force it" perspective—which of course also makes me frustrated with all of the “we're taking your equipment away!" shrines.

Feels like they listened to people who complained that BotW's final boss was too easy instead of all of us who thought it was fine.

    I just had an unknown number call me, which I sent directly to voicemail. They were staying connected for a long time, but I couldn’t figure out why a transcription of the voicemail wasn’t being shown to me.

    It was a fax machine calling me. 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Medical FSAs in the U.S. are a complete joke. It's supposed to be a tax free way to save money for medical expenses.

    Anytime I have a medical bill, just slide the card and...wait I have to provide a receipt when I'm obviously being billed by a medical facility?

    Oh that's not enough? It has to be itemized? So I know have to plead with my medical provider to give me a detailed explanation of what they did?

    Oh you decide after all that it's not covered? Cool Cool.

    @matt I use Scrivener for writing, and it’s last major version update was almost 6 years ago.

    There have been bug fixes and such since then, but nothing really new functionality-wise I don’t think.

    I’m still extremely happy with it. I like solid, stable software that I don’t have to re-learn every year or two just to get things done

    Went to go back to putting posts on my blog and doing stuff with it...then discovered I hadn't done that at all on my new machine.

    And now I have to go down the rabbit hole of getting my Ruby environment set up.

    I love a lot but sigh. It sometimes feels like everything is always harder than it needs to be when building software.

    Okay, now to figure out how again to set up Ruby and ruby versioning on my computer…

    I am running into the very adult problem of sleep timing.

    To handle kids and work, I need to wake up at 7.

    I need 8 hours of sleep plus about an hour of buffer to fall asleep, so 9 hours.

    The time when all my friends are on Discord to talk to seems to be from 10-midnight.

    I seem to have to pick between being sleep-deprived or adult-socialization deprived.

    I have no idea how to reconcile this ☹️

    @katerberg But I also don't want to abandon my hobbies, because 1) that's partly what I socialize around, and 2) that's how I feed my soul so I don't feel dead inside.

    Of course, I struggled with this pre-kids as well. It's just a hell of a calculus as an adult: "either have time to be human; or get enough sleep”

    @katerberg I appreciate it. Adulting is hard, especially when kids are involved!

    Mine are older than yours, though, and it helps as they get older—but then there are other challenges that crop up as well.

    Much resonance, or as the kids these days put it, "I'm vibing to this" or something like that.

    @katerberg They’re not for everyone, admittedly. I saw an article that noted their sales tend to pale in comparison of Mario etc. So if they’re not your cup of tea, that’s totally fine!
