E*thirteen’s new tubeless valve is half Presta, half Schrader, and promises easier tyre setup

I'm confused - if you still have to force air through the Presta cross section, how is air flow increased?

"a hybrid of the best of Presta and Schrader. This means it’ll still poke through the same Presta-sized hole in your rims, but at the top it morphs into the chunkier Schraeder standard to make it more robust and increase the air volume."

@rvaughnmd isn’t it just heavier than either too?

Felt like revisiting the album 2001 for some reason today, and man, it's legendary for a reason.

Some days, I really question why I come to work. Then I remember there's bills to pay, family to take care of, and my growing pet population. Maybe one day I'll have that hermits cabin in the mountains to work on my manifesto but not today...

With that BS out of the way, how is everyone doing this surprisingly warm Monday? Warm for me in St. Louis at least hopefully warm for you too.

katerberg,

@That_One_Guy it’s such a nice day that I’m going to walk to a coffee shop to finish the day.

Just saw a mid century modern dresser being sold as “MidMod” and now I kinda want to die.

Watched American Fiction. It was fantastic. All the actors did great, and the movie did an amazing job of telling a real family story in the midst of the plot. I love movies where no one is a cardboard cutout, and this was exemplary of that complexity.

It didn’t hold back from making fun of sacred cows and it ended up feeling incredibly real.

Doing research on the Ramones today and writing up stuff for my radio show tomorrow. They will be artist of the week. #music

katerberg,

@methoddan there’s an amazing history of punk from No Dogs In Space that has a deep dive on Ramones. It’s longer than you’ll want to listen to for this week, but if you want to hear a ton of interesting stories, I’d highly recommend it.

A medieval horror story in 2024.

Why would any woman trust the medical system today?

Black Woman Who Was Charged for Miscarriage Was Reported to Cops by Her Nurse

Watching the #Lions lose yesterday was so brutal. I genuinely don’t watch many games because it’s so annoying to stream them, but have never loved a team other than than Detroit, so after an amazing season, I am sad to see it end but also really proud that they did so well.

Just a crushing loss due to one bad quarter for an amazing team.

The more I watch #magicthegathering Canadian Highlander content, the more I become convinced that competetive #mtgedh players should play that instead. Not as much fun as showing up at your LGS and stomping kids.

katerberg,

@grmpyprogrammer I like both formats, but what we can all agree on is that anyone that brings a #cedh deck to a casual table is a huge jerk. Play decks at the power level of the people around you and everyone has more fun!

Watched Kept Husbands. This movie was super interesting and had me twisting all sorts of ways. The script and acting were bumpy but the best parts were super impressive. Pacing felt very off in parts, but McCrea was outstanding.

I don't know how I feel about the movie in 2024, but it's far more complicated than overtly sexist. Still interesting lessons other than the last 3 minutes.

Sparks was comedic gold even if he was unnecessary .

h/t @TSPOE_pods for the rec.

@mekkaokereke hey, not to be weird or anything but just wanted to drop a “thank you” for the constant work of education. I learn a lot from your account and wanted to let you know that I see all the effort you put into it and it really helps me learn. <3

Watched Sullivan’s Travels. I walked in knowing it was one of the “great movies” but didn’t anticipate all the twists and turns. There are two fantastic films stuck together here and it ends up being better than the sum of its parts. There are a lot of later films that steal outright from it, but it was wild.

I want to see a remake with Sorkin writing and Jeff Daniels (from 2010) acting in the lead.

Watched Straight Outta Compton. Whew, I’ve never so much wanted a movie to be a biography. The stories are all fascinating, but the drama really fell flat for me. It felt like a Wikipedia summary rather than an actual movie. It felt like the Hollywood version of one of the most real stories. Giamatti stood out, but there was just too much going on here to be cohesive.

Watched Mean Girls (2024). Not what I’d call a “good” movie, but it was fun and did a pretty good job of translating the stage show. Probably could have abbreviated a few more of the songs but it is a nice remembrance of the original movie and out performed my low expectations.

Cravalho did incredibly and I can’t wait to see what else she does because dang, she stood out.

Watched Dark Alibi at suggestion of @TSPOE_pods. I’ve never seen a Charlie Chan movie and don’t think I want to see more. The racial history is super complicated and not clearly bad, but is tough to watch in 2024.

The stand out actor by a mile was Moreland. His comedy was so reminiscent of Eddie Murphy in parts that I swear Murphy must have cribbed lines. Rarely have the comic relief characters been a hit for me, but he and Fong were fantastic.

It's really hard to concentrate on while my husband is yelling at the insurance company over billing issue.

They are terrible, and he is fighting the valiant fight. I don't begrudge it at all, but I just can't think!

Our house is super open, so there's nowhere I can get away unless I actually leave the house, and I keep expecting him to be done soon. But as many of you probably know, calls to insurance companies can go on longer than you expect.

Watched Deadpool 2. I think I like this one more than the original. It definitely is even emotionally resonate. As stand-alone films for people that were alive during this, these are probably the most-rewatchable. Crass and violent, it's still full of charm.

katerberg,

@methoddan yeah my seems like they aren’t scared to not tie into the big picture which I deeply appreciate with the MCU fatigue

Watched The Rock. I find this movie so weird and thought-provoking. It is a fine action flick, although the violence is kinda stupid both in how touching it tries to be and also in how gory it is with no reason. The lunacy of the government also makes suspension of disbelief really hard.

That said, Harris is a great actor and his character has a ton of depth. Cage and Connery do fantastic jobs and the relationships hold the movie together more than the action scenes.
