Interesting re: Vision Pro availability. So at 10am PT (5 hours after launch), orders would ship mid-March and there were no in-store pickup options. I just checked and shipping is still mid-March but I’ve got in-store options as soon as Feb 3 depending on how far I want to go. The closest store to me says Feb 7. Granted, this could be different in 2 weeks but for now, if I had FOMO, I could get one in Tacoma the day after release.

@film_girl I’m really curious to learn what their manufacturing capacity of this is and what the initial sales numbers will be. With any new product Apple always tries to make sure the stores have a number that are unaccounted for to resolve customer service issues and the like, but they’ve never launched a product like this before with so few user selectable configurations but also unique pre-assigned sizing.

Slept until 11am. Rolled through preorder while making coffee. 1TB Vision Pro still available for delivery on Feb 2; in-store pickup — which Apple says is recommended, presumably for fit/training — on Feb 3.

@Meyerweb when I listen to a podcast that puts speakers each entirely on one side or the other it drives me crazy. Especially when one of those folks speaks for a long period of time.

The existence of Quote Tweets on BlueSky is evidence enough that the fear of them being used for abuse is overblown.

Now that time has gone on long enough what we’re seeing on BlueSky is that posts have a shorter engagement shelf-life than on Twitter, because there doesn’t appear to be algorithmic boosting of posts in the same way.

That was the real harassment threat.

Truthfully Mastodon doesn’t have quote tweets because its model of federation isn’t set up for it.

@matt because it’s going to have to fetch and display content across servers and commingle them. My feed on my server will need to embed a post from your server, which could have entirely different content rules and restrictions.

On the surface this isn’t a hard technical problem to handle, but at scale it is. It’s not as simple as an article preview or another piece of embedded content.

@gruber I’ve heard you talk about the Mack Weldon slippers before. How do you feel about the sizing? It says the medium is a 9-11 but I’m an 11.5 in most shoes. I’d like a snugger fit. I worry the Large is gonna be too big.
