Scots, English, fluent Spanish and less fluent French speaking supporter of #ScottishIndependence, profoundly opposed to #Brexit.

Trying not to be carnaptious all of the time - family, friends, single malt, photography, books, travel, music, cycling and walking help keep me sane.

The only Tory three word slogan that's stood the test of time.

"NO NEW MONEY".

Unelected Labour peer for life, enthusiastic bon vivant and one-man expenses black hole George Foulkes intends to challenge Scottish Government spending on international offices (some of which were actually established under Labour) as he continues trying to frustrate the legitimate mandated programme for government of the elected SNP and Scottish Greens pro-independence majority administration at Holyrood.

What's the point of Foulkes?

What's the point of Labour in Scotland?

"Labour's Anas Sarwar has been accused of “flipping his principles” after he U-turned and backed Westminster control of Scottish drug [policy].

"But the SNP have highlighted how, in 2021, Sarwar had called for the devolution of drugs powers to Holyrood to help combat the drugs deaths crisis."

George Foulkes, "former MSP and MP, who has previously insisted the idea of an equal Union was nothing more than a “myth”, also referred to Scotland’s leadership as an “elected dictatorship”."

That's rich, coming from a discredited unelected Labour peer in the unelected House of Lords, that happens to be stuffed full of avowed champions of the proletariat.

Step 1: as part of EU Retained Law Bill, rights to were scrapped;

[ support among women continues to fall]

Step 2: Labour says it will introduce pay equality laws early if they are elected;

Step 3: Suddenly, make a public commitment to introduce a law to protect gender equality rights to pay in the Autumn.

But, announcing the reintroduction of equal pay legislation is likely to be more declaratory politics;

I'll believe it the I see it & not a moment before

Labour spent years and millions of pounds in the courts blocking equal pay for staff on Glasgow City Council. The SNP implemented it on coming to power in the city.

It's impossible to rely on any commitments Labour make at the moment, given the relentless U-turns under Starmer. It's probably best to look at their actual actions to try and gauge what they might actually do if they win the next UK GE.

The Guardian's now reporting that Gove's sleekit scheme to "scrap housebuilder water pollution rules in England will cost taxpayers £140m".

This probably means Scottish taxpayers will cop it too, although this change will only apply to England.

All because house builders' donations to the Tories are down.

Isn't this "union" thang just peachy?

Another day, another article in The Guardian/Observer that's exclusively about English exam results and inequality in England that carries the headline

"Children without a bed aren’t going to be interested in school’: can Britain’s [sic] north-south education divide be repaired?"

Why does The Guardian deliberately and consistently conflate England with "Britain"?

If this were a Scottish issue, would they use "Britain" in the same way?
