MetaCubed,

All community rules are bastards? Weird take

MetaCubed,

Can I sincerely ask what we’re supposed to use instead?

Kagi has given me the best search experience ive had in at least a decade, I’m not going back to the enshittification engine, and everything else is just bing in fancy wrapping paper. Is there something else like Kagi? Is there something like DDG or Searx that arent just slightly better bing?

MetaCubed,

Apologies, my question wasn’t rhetorical, I was genuinely looking for suggestions. I don’t want to use kagi if this is who is running it… BUT all the alternatives that I’m personally aware of are not options for replacement.

MetaCubed,

Trans woman = woman, I fail to see your point.

Kansas Is About to Pass the Most Extreme Age Verification Law Yet (www.404media.co)

An age verification bill in Kansas that is the most extreme in the country has passed both House and Senate and is on its way to the governor’s desk. The bill will make sites with more than 25 percent adult content liable to heavy fines if they don’t verify that visitors are over the age of 18. It also calls being gay...

MetaCubed, (edited )

TL;DR: IANAL, however, the document this bill references to define what content is harmful to children directly, verbatim defines sexual conduct as including “homosexuality” broadly

Okay so this bill is SB394 (linked above obviously) and it opens with the following

Any commercial entity that knowingly shares or distributes material that is harmful to minors on a website and such material appears on 25% or more of the webpages viewed on such website in any calendar month, or that knowingly hosts such website (…)

It carries on to later define “harmful to minors” in section h-3 as the following:

(3) “Harmful to minors” means the same as defined in K.S.A. 21-6402, and amendments thereto.

If we go look at K.S.A. 21-6402 we can find that it is regarding “Promotion to minors of material harmful to minors” and goes on to declare in section d-2 that “harmful to minors” refers to several things including sexual conduct (I’m omitting this full quote for brevity, you can find it in the linked document).

Now if we look a little further down, we can see that Kansas currently defines sexual content as defined in section d-8:

(8) “sexual conduct” means acts of masturbation, homosexuality, sexual intercourse or physical contact with a person’s clothed or unclothed genitals or pubic area or buttocks or with a human female’s breast; and (…)

Considering all this, i think extremely reasonable to believe that this could outlaw LGBTQ+ content from being displayed openly online within Kansas

Edit: fixed sexual conduct/content mixups

MetaCubed,

Firefox with ublock origin and you will unironically have an near identical experience

MetaCubed,

“Narcissist is a slur!” -cried the Narcissist

I’ve done the digging I need to to confirm to my satisfaction that you’ve at least 3 alts, all of which defend you, use it/its pronouns, and all of which claim to be the originating victim.

Stop lying, log off

MetaCubed,

If I’m ever doubtful that someone has unplugged something, I’ll ask them to describe something that may or may not be on the plug.

  • Color
  • metal type
  • "can you please read me the serial number stamped on the prongs of the power cable"
  • “what color is the plastic inside the plug” Etc.etc.

Have not had it fail yet

MetaCubed,

It’s possible for more than one thing to be true at the same time.

It’s true that Hamas is a terrorist organization, yes.

However it’s also true that the Israeli government is undertaking actions which are fitting for a genocidal, fascist government. Do you seriously thing that their 24 hour evacuation notice sent to an excess of 1 million people who had/have no power, water, heat, or communications is reasonable?

MetaCubed,

But consider: we could make it less shit to be an adult (on average)

MetaCubed,

I strongly believe that in this case, being on the side of the civilians in all cases is not enlightened centrism…it’s just the correct side… Do you think the civilians of one side deserve retribution?

Siding with the Israeli government is to support Netanyahu and his fascistic genocide of the Palestinian people

Siding with Hamas (Hamas =/= Palestine) is to support violent extremists.

MetaCubed,

God, they really need better transit infrastructure down there >!/s!<

MetaCubed,

It’s called that because moles are a tunnelling animal… Like a VPN tunnel…

MetaCubed,

“A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on” - Not actually Twain

MetaCubed,

Imagine having a raging hard-on for another corporation that doesn’t give two fucks about you

MetaCubed,

I agree with you that we should be exploring alternatives, but aircon is extremely energy efficient for how much thermal energy it moves (reaching 400% efficiency in some cases) . The problem isn’t aircon itself, but what is being used to power it (coal/natural gas power plants)

In fact the technology behind aircon can be expanded into a heat pump to both heat and cool, being more efficient than electro-resistive or gas heating. There’s even water heaters that will actually cool the area they’re in and use the heat they gather from the space to heat the water.

Technology Connections has a great series of videos that go in depth on both heat pumps and aircon.

MetaCubed,

Alarmist claims without data

Doing any amount of research on this brings up this study published by the NIH (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4164883/)

To keep it brief for you:

  • Talc and asbestos are both silicate minerals
  • Because of this they naturally occur together
  • The above has been known outside of commercial industry since the early 80’s at least
  • The NIH tested 50 talc containing products
  • All 50 of the tested products contained asbestos in concentrations ranging between 5%-20% asbestos
  • Application of the talc containing products was found to aerosolise the asbestos fibers in a manner that they could be inhaled
  • Any inhalation of asbestos is considered enough to cause mesothelioma
  • J&J has known since 1967 that talc products usually contain asbestos as well as the health risks and continued to market it as safe anyways (www.reuters.com/…/johnsonandjohnson-cancer/)

Some other studies have found asbestos contamination of talc at lower percentages such as 15% of market products. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to roll the dice for somewhere between a 0%-85% chance that my product isn’t contaminated with asbestos just so my taint will be dry. If there’s 100,000 asbestos containing products, then at least 15,000 of them will contain asbestos.

Do you want to take that risk?

MetaCubed,

Obviously all those things (except capitalism and some wars) are bad
