Anyone that's had a relationship with an animal knows this.
Only losely related, but I believe your anecdotal evidence lines up with my own as well. I adopted 2 cats last year and find myself more seriously considering veganism lately. Sure, I anthropomorphize a lot of their actions and behaviors, but I'm learning there's a lot more to animals than I previously thought.
I see people say that NordVPN is a bad choice all the time, but I've never seen any credible evidence that they're not trustworthy. Can anyone provide any sources with valid reasons to avoid their service? I only know that they had some servers hacked in 2018, but it seems as though they took that very seriously and upgraded...
Firefox had some issues like a decade ago on their old engine. In the past few years, they seriously stepped up their game.
If you're a normal user, you probably won't even notice the difference between Firefox and Chomium-based browsers. Sometimes I come across a weird website that doesn't want to load properly, so I'll open a Chrome tab for a few minutes to access it, but that's increasingly rare.
For web development, I generally prefer Chome's debug tools, but do all my normal browsing with Firefox.
I discovered yesterday evening that Lemmy.ml is blocking all inbound ActivityPub requests from /kbin instances. Specifically, a 403 'access denied' is returned when the user agent contains "kbinBot" anywhere in the string. This has been causing a cascade of failures with federation for many server owners, flooding the message...
What a weird thing to keep defending in multiple threads. I don’t want to see hate speech. It provides no actual value to any open forum. Most users don’t want to see it at all either, from what I’ve seen. This isn’t 4chan.
After years of reddit/twitter/facebook propping up fascism/bigotry with algorithms & bots I'm honestly surprised and relieved to be in an online space that clearly rejects their ideology....
I was so fucking relieved to see that lemmy.world doesn't fuck around with the fascist "absolute free-speech" game. Fucking FINALLY! If I didn't already have a reason not to return to reddit/Twitter/whatever, this would've been enough on its own. Thank you, admins!
I just keep seeing this mouse everywhere, but it would make sense if it was a lemming. It's a lemming, right? Where does the name Lemmy come from anyways?
I see a lot of comments from bootlickers on how the protests are dumb and stupid and dont work and engagement metrics are still holding but the quality of posts and comments has noticeably depreciated imo. So much so that whenever I visit the site Im actually shocked at how bad it is.
Even if they allowed 3rd party apps to have free access and fired u/spez, I've lost all interest. Their policies are 100% unappealing to me as a consumer. I also like how lemmy.world doesn't tolerate hate speech, in stark contrast to reddit.
I've been looking for work since losing my job in March. And all these lead-addled antiques keep saying, "nobody wants to work anymore." These people couldn't be any less attached to reality.
Connect is my favorite so far! I tried out Jerboa and Liftoff as well. Jerboa is fine. Liftoff is incredibly buggy in my experience. Connect is beautiful and slick! Seems very stable so far, too!
This POS likes to just… block it anyways… it isn’t legal, but he’s worth $6 billion, and it’s only enforced by a small fine IIRC. And when the penalty for breaking a law is a fine, it’s only illegal if you’re poor.
I am theoretically switching over from Reddit to Lemmy. Finding myself spending more time on Lemmy than on Reddit. Maybe it's because I am limited to using the desktop and can't aimlessly browse Reddit on my iPhone. Of late, the only subreddits I cared for were on sports and their matchday threads and r/watches. I found myself...
Most of my favorite subs are irreversibly affected by protestors. Going there, I just see a feed of filler content among meme posts. I don't believe reddit has anything to offer me anymore, and I'm no longer interested in interacting on the company's platform.
Honestly, seeing how many people signed up on these federated services and the amount of people sharing similar viewpoints over this controversy is refreshing. We stuck with reddit for too long, for no good reason other than a lack of competition, and I'm excited to see what changes this can bring!
A well known feature from Reddit, default communities (subs on Reddit) are communities that newcomers are subscribed to by default. Lemmy, and specifically lemmy.world, could use some of these, I feel. At the very least, communities like lemmyworld, general, and newcomers are good ones to include, if we're still somehow sticking...
I would LOVE something like multireddits on Lemmy. I actually do not like the idea of default subscriptions (unless it's optional), but making custom multis is something that I'd really love to have on here.
I'll keep rif installed while I transition, but I'm not posting there anymore. I'm really liking it here, and reddit has been around long enough IMO. I'm no longer interested in that site after how they've been treating their users.

Should we change app names?
I've heard a lot of people want to change app names. Which I'm totally fine with! I've heard a lot of love for the name "Voyager"...

Does anybody feel like the quality of reddit has already dropped massively?
I see a lot of comments from bootlickers on how the protests are dumb and stupid and dont work and engagement metrics are still holding but the quality of posts and comments has noticeably depreciated imo. So much so that whenever I visit the site Im actually shocked at how bad it is.
