8bn pages crawled and indexed in house by us, but if you want something a bit more fleshed-out: www.mojeek.com/about/why-mojeek

thanks a lot for shouting us out, Marginalia is also impressive (basically a one-person project etc.), the random button is delightful

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

are you able to let us know what you use Mojeek for? Just interested in where we slot in

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

Thanks a lot for sharing such a detailed rundown of what you find Mojeek to be useful for. I’ve shared this with the wider team.

This being said, if you have things that you’d like to wing our way in terms of improvements, or feedback on individual results, our inbox is always open (aloe at mojeek dot com) and there’s a submit feedback button on results pages. Mojeek thrives and grows off of feedback, the good and the bad 🙏

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

We’ll try and get that okay up to a good and then a great as time goes by! There’s a submit feedback button on results pages if you’d like to be a part of that.

Microsoft is once again injecting pop-up ads into Google Chrome on Windows in a bid to get people to switch to Bing (www.theverge.com)

The software giant first introduced malware-like pop-up ads last year with a prompt that appeared over the top of other apps and windows. After pausing that notification to address “unintended behavior,” the pop-ups have returned again on Windows 10 and 11....

@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

sorry to hear that; if you are using us any point in the future and want to flag this, we have a “submit feedback” button on pages, this is a really useful thing to do for us, as it helps us to identify results which are not so good :D

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

thanks a lot in advance, and fedi is where it’s at ! 💯

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

you can smash the “submit feedback” button on the page when you get a duff search and send it into us, it’s how we improve: blog.mojeek.com/…/major-algorithm-update.html

coming up to 20 years of no tracking, 18 of having the first privacy policy to say it: web.archive.org/web/…/privacy.html

hopefully a good consensus 😅 at least seen very little of people saying bad

O duckduckgo utiliza o bing e não o seu próprio índice; obrigado por nos ter mencionado!

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

Interessante.

With all the talk about privacy, people seem to be forgetting that censorship is also a major problem for today's internet. (lemmy.world)

Many “alternative” search engines are better for privacy, but they are still vulnerable to censorship, because they rely on g**gle and m*crosoft’s indices for their search results. This isn’t a deep-hidden secret either, many of them disclose what search index they use on the “about” page, for example:...

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

we’re gettin’ censored here 🫠

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

if you look at the repo they give thanks to:

“The commoncrawl organization for crawling the web and making the dataset readily available. Even though we have our own crawler now, commoncrawl has been a huge help in the early stages of development.”

There is nothing I can find which says how much of the index is CC and how much is their own; if there’s a decent amount of CC, this is originally for researchers etc. it’s not the best resource in the world for a search index: commoncrawl.org

That being said, as an independent search engine, it’s always good to see people take on the massive task of actually building an index, not becoming a proxy.

Bin-go: www.searchenginemap.com same with many others

Any duck duck go alternative that is better in privacy and security ?

I have always liked and used Duck duck go more than google but now i am considering if i should switch because of the shit they pulled with their app and yesterday when i clicked a link it took me directly to their newsletter subsciption page not even like a popup a proper page without any way except manually backing out . So is...

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

mojeek and lynx together, love this combo!

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

looking at it it would seem to be getting results via the brave search api

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

biased but i think they’re doing just swell (and getting better by the day) ;)

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

thanks a lot for the mention, if you wanna use that fallback less and less, feeding back on algo updates via www.mojeek.com/eval always helps us

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

ah no bother at all, not everyone is gonna be across every single kind of company and they are functionally very similar!

Mojeek,
@Mojeek@lemmy.ml avatar

thank you kindly, that is great to hear; we’ve got this new and even better (so far testing is showing that) algo ready to go too: www.mojeek.com/eval so hopefully it’ll be even more fantastic-er soon :D
