Some of the churches where I live have a big banner outside that says, “Try praying”. It strikes me as comically desperate. Imagine a car dealership with a “Try driving” banner, a restaurant with “Try eating”.

I was searching for a fix for some MS bullshit and clicked on a link that had a good answer… and lo and behold, Reddit. “Came for the cats, stayed for the empathy.” Yes, they still have that on the banner. Lol!!

I deleted my account during the “strike”, and this was my first time back. I couldn’t upvote the poster, and for a second that made me sad.

Amazon gets these dumb answers because it emails buyers with the questions. So Joe Blow gets an email saying, “will this fit my XYZ?” and he answers, “I don’t know, but it works ok on my ABC”. It makes the Q&A section mostly useless.

Fantastic blog Helmut! I’m not a train enthusiast but didn’t mind your focus on railway stations and wagons and such. It was a very, very interesting read, and I like your conclusion about not lumping the citizens of a country in with the regime that controls them. I love meeting local people when I travel, it’s always a highlight.

Yes, I use Bing. I got sick of Google’s ads, not to mention having to click through two pages of useless boosted links. Bing is quicker and cleaner.

I don’t generally judge people based on their appearance, but this man’s face gives me the heebie-jeebies. There’s something alienating about the lack of affect he seems to have, plus his features seem to be an approximation of a human face - the mouth is too small, the ears too big, the forehead too shiny…

I started pirating movies again after a decade

I was a happy Netflix user until 2018, before that I haven’t really pirated any movies (with very rare exceptions) for almost a decade but I recently started again. I feel like I must be the only person in the world still still using Piratebay! I switch between that and Kickass Torrents and have done for years. They’ve been through a variety of guises but seem to have settled down now. I use Tixati to leech and seed, never used a VPN and never had any trouble from my ISPs. It’s been interesting reading the comments though, might look at some of the suggestions.

Hello! I'm a very ordinary person, found That Other Site from Digg and now am bumbling around here. I had a look at Mastodon a while back but didn't make the leap until this week. I was just going to do the two days, but what happened with Apollo specifically was so shitty I'm making a permanent move away. Initially I was on Mastodon but I kept seeing Lemmy recommended and here I am. I don't fully understand the Fediverse or how I've ended up with three instances, but I'm enjoying learning. Such a friendly place! Thanks!

My sister was a hairdresser and she once thought she was using her thinning scissors and took a big chunk out of a client's hair. Another time, she stopped to contemplate and accidentally stabbed herself under the chin with the very sharp scissors. Bled all over the client's collar before she realised. I think it was pretty much a blessing when she developed an allergy to some of the colour/perm chemicals and had to give it up.
