Ume: "I grew up near Hanno City in Japan. That's near Tokyo. My family used to own farmland out there. Some of it was sold to pay debts and others to pay for vices. Gambling and vanity mainly. I got along with the other kids growing up but never felt like I belonged. After high school, I left as quickly as I could.

Let's see? My parents considered me a problem child. My grandfather never spoke to me after the 5th grade. I wasn't manly enough. The joke was on him, That was because I wasn't a guy at all. The one exception was when he made a deal with me to marry Hanayomi-shin. "If you don't have lumber, bamboo will do." That is how he described me.

Except to go to my grandfather's funeral I haven't seen my family since.

#wordweavers 3Writing 19. How did you settle on your MC's appearance?

I get an image of what my character is like as an individual. Personality. Then I develop an image that matches that personality. Sometimes this is aided by inspiration from individuals that exemplify that personality.

Next, I draw up a written spec with references and send it to my artist. I get a concept sketch, which I vet with "suggestions." Usually, two or three showing progress Line, middle coloration, and pre-final. (I pay extra for the additional input)

Then I receive a final drawing. And the appearance is settled.

It is a collaborative effort me 80% artist 20%

Those are important. Certainly, enough self-confidence and willingness to take a risk are required. Best qualities, probably not. Literacy, motivation, and physical capacity all would rank higher.

I fear it will require a new brain. Amoung my many gifts is ADHD. I made it work for me, but prolonged focus is usually beyond me. A good juicy piece of narrative is good. Until I need to look up something. And then we are in for 5+, usually +, of chasing shiny objects around.

Chapter 24 is finally ready to sit and get a last edit.

I ignored a couple of Beta readers suggestions, but one they didn't think was big gave me a hard time.

Characters were reacting to the tone of something I had in my head, not what was on paper. What I had on paper was right, not what was in my head. to rip out the transition both in and out of that section so people were reacting appropriately. It meant junking some nice dialog, but oh well.

I don't consciously write for any age group. Certainly, nothing is aimed at children. Most of what I write has mature themes. So the answer is probably no, I write for a mature audience.

Anyone who follows my timeline knows I'm deep into underground Japanese Idols. Neck deep or deeper. Shows, livestreams, Cheki (small polaroid-type photos), bromides (larger photos), autographs, you name it.

I also do rough camping and hunt ghosts. I know some folks think I'm batty but I've had a couple of encounters with them.

Meiko-kun wears the high school uniform he was wearing when he died.

Mikawa wears a funeral kimono.

It's part of their identity, so I guess that is what they are most comfortable in.

Shiomi also has difficulty. It's Shiomi against the world.

Politely.

Shiro and Kao would find a private corner and misbehave because the risk of getting caught is what turns Shiro on.

Ume, Tomo, and Shiomi would leave as soon as was polite.

Saeki likes learning so she would explore thoroughly and Arisu would go along because Saaki was enjoying herself.

No body is buying season passes though.

Why? Because that is what that's what I like. I have no great mission beyond entertaining other people who love yuri.

Hello everyone. I'm back from the almost dead. Follow my advice and avoid getting a throat/stomach infection plus a fall from the stairs combo because you might not like the wonderful things something like that can do to your body. Cool things like feeling so weak that you can't even sign something at the bank, or hallucinate with an "AI filter" =-|

Now, I'm not sure if being back is a good thing…>=)

#JIdol I filled one of my cheki albums last yesterday. 128 Hima cheki. I have a "Moon Kami" album on order. I'll use it for the 2shot and those autographed with my name. The current one will be for Hima cosplay and basic autographed cheki.

Tomo: "Ume. I had to talk her out of investing in a maid cafe in Hanno and not paying some scam publisher to look at her stories.."

Ume: "All true. But least gullible sounds like a good thing. Tomo wouldn't believe me about Mikawa being a ghost even after she tried to kill me and Shiomi several times. Mikawa literally had to knock on our door before he would believe me."

#PennedPossibilities #Writing 314 — Has your MC ever felt as though they were reborn in the mental / emotional sense?

Kaori the LI in my second novel starts the novel off feeling this way. She sees her destined romantic partner and allows her to turn her life around.

Shiomi/Shishi has this moment at the end of volume one of Konkini Idol. But I'm not saying any more about that since it is the whole driving issue and climax of that volume.
