The coming winter is gonna be an extremely tough one for me.

This far north, during the darkest part of winter, we only get a few hours of light per day, tops. So during summer, we're desperate to get all the sun and light we can get.

This has been one of the rainiest summers I can remember, and now it's getting cold too. Without having recharged properly, this winter will be brutal mentally.

Invite me to live in a warmer place with more sun for a while. Please? I'll make games!

Hot take (extremely mild take):

I used to defend Y-up a lot as the better choice because how Z is the "special" dimension and if X/Y are points on a screen, Z is inwards/outwards.

But now I'm like Z-up makes just as much sense too! If the space is a world map, the "special" dimension is naturally how far into the air/ground something is. Plus, it's the standard in math.

So these days I'm like... no particularly strong opinion anymore? It's all fine :)

Making a 1-button game. Won't have time for rebindable controls because this is a small game, but I can assign any number of buttons to act as the button. Going for Space Bar, Z and X. Should I add more? Which ones?

I want to avoid buttons that trigger stuff like Windows Sticky Keys tho.

Sport movies are always like:

2: Training montage
3: Games begin! Hero team struggling
4: No wait, they actually got this
5: Oh no, evil team cheats
6: Hero team wins anyway

But what I really want to see is a a sports heist movie. Like, one where the heroes have no chance of winning except by cheating the hell out of everything and getting away with it!

Baldur's Gate 3 is getting much easier now. What a weird game. Impossible difficult spike at the beginning, then after goblin camp done it just goes way more chill.

Maybe the developers of this game experience time in reverse? That'd explain the reverse difficulty curve. Does that mean the development of the game just began instead of ended?

Does Unity currently use the Transform's position of a particle system for sorting? (note: with other transparent objects, not internally) Back when we made Affordable Space Adventures, sorting was determined by the center of where the particles currently were, and it was a big problem.

I kid you not: 200x lossless compression

Obvs this is literally impossible. But I feel it could be a fun opportunity to prank Neuralink by making a program that places the actual data somewhere else on the hard drive, and just fills the "compressed" file with noise and a hidden reference to where to locate the real data.

Problem, Neuralink wants source, so obfuscation would be needed

A: Doom Ticket. Bars you from heaven but you'll be the monarch of the underworld.
B: Incognito Hat. God won't find out about your sins while you wear it.
C: Book of Substitution. Swaps which religion is true. You cannot make none of them true.

It's still funny to me the US has a day to celebrate a movie all the way back from 1996. I mean, it was entertaining. The spaceships looked cool, and the practical effects were great. But come on, it wasn't THAT good!

Another Unity question! Since normally, my game generates 0 garbage in any given frame, is there a way to profile only frames where 1 byte of garbage was generated or more? It'd be nice to just skip the frames I'm not looking for, and only have a timeline of generated garbage frames and nothing else.

That way I could get a nice overview of garbage generation without the 9999 out of 10000 frames I'm not looking for appearing in the timeline.

B: Indentation is a syntax error, and also not supported by any IDE
C: All arrays uses 2 based indexing, 1 is subtracted for each next item (i.e. 2, 1, 0, -1, -2, -3...)
D: Version control is no longer a thing

No attempt to sidestep the decision will work. It is a superpower after all.

I'd like to share my opinion about analog vs digital synthesis and how it evolved for 20 years.

Beginning:

• Analog better
• It's just placebo, they sound the same
• Actually, analog DOES sound different when compared
• No wait, some new plugins actually simulate it convincingly, it doesn't matter which you use
• Too many synths to test, can't make a fair comparison

Today I'm like:

• Analog matters! Simply because I know this synthesizer is real analog and it makes me happy!
