@Exaggeration207 The optimization still is. 7 months into the release and the game still has serious FPS drops in the problem areas. Hopefully Nintendo contracts a new development studio.

@argv_minus_one Oh yeah, I remember when they promised that CSS support was coming... 7 years ago. As for redirecting people to the Fediverse, some of the apps like RedReader are openly considering it.

@argv_minus_one Is that scaling problem a software issue, or a hosting issue? There are other Fediverse platforms like Akkoma that use Elixir, so maybe they'd fair better? Could also pick several federated instances to distribute users to.

@argv_minus_one I see. The more I look into it, the more I think Lemmy should still be considered beta software like kbin, TBH. Some important features are still missing and the optimization is lacking.

is also something that applies to Lemmy, so I'm not sure why you'd knock one platform for it but not the other.

And even if you're not particularly interested in following non-Lemmy users, others are and it would resolve an interop asymmetry that has formed due to lacking this functionality. Like, the only reason we can have this conversation in the first place is because Mastodon supports following Lemmy users and communities and allows me to interact with them, but it's not currently possible to follow non-Lemmy users on Lemmy, which makes the interop very one-sided and cuts you guys off from a large chunk of content (unless you make accounts on other platforms, but Fediverse platforms shouldn't require that just to subscribe to public content feeds, as the interop is one of the Fediverse's biggest selling points over silo'd corporate social media).

@argv_minus_one It's actually a pretty common Fediverse feature. Some platforms even allow you to migrate accounts from other platforms (e.g. Calckey allows you to migrate a Mastodon account to Calckey).

@argv_minus_one IDK for Lemmy specifically, as I'm a Mastodon user and am currently commenting from there. On Mastodon it's an option under your account settings when you click the "edit profile" button; I would imagine Lemmy puts it in a similar place.

@jmp242 On the Mastodon side of things, Lemmy communities are treated as users and the posts to them get boosted to me since I follow the community. From there, it's indistinguishable from a regular Mastodon post and I can participate normally.

@nutomic Is there willingness to consider adding support for following users (and perhaps hashtags too)? It would be a good interop feature. IMO one of the biggest selling points of the Fediverse is that I can follow users from PixelFed, Calckey, Lemmy, etc and have their content show up seamlessly in my feed; I can even interact with it. Not having this feature just seems like it cuts off Lemmy users from the majority of the Fediverse, unless they want to manage multiple accounts on multiple platforms.

@Cougar I'm already familiar with kbin and I know they have that feature, but I think the platform is still in beta, so IDK if it's ready for serious usage or not.

@noodlejetski For all the new people coming in, a fun thing about the Fediverse is that you can actually grab content from more platforms than just Lemmy if you feel so inclined. I, for instance, am commenting on this thread from Mastodon. I subscribe to users on PixelFed (decentralized Instagram + Flickr), Mastodon (decentralized Twitter kind of), Calckey (like Mastodon but with a different feature set), and Lemmy of course. So just keep in mind that that if you find yourself wanting more types of content, unlike silo'd corporate social media, you do have the option to explore the rest of the Fediverse ecosystem and have the content there show up in your feed. Mastodon alone has like 2.1 million monthly active users.

@SaintPaul Well, IDK the specifics of following a user on Lemmy because I'm only a Mastodon user, but finding content on other platforms I can do. You just pick largish servers since those tend to be well-federated and type hashtags into their search bar. Like I went to Calckey's flagship instance just now to search for nature pics, so I typed in and it gave me a bunch of nature pics from a variety of platforms (though mostly from Mastodon and Pixelfed). From there if you see content you like you build up a follow list. Nothing too complicated. Other platforms like Mastodon and Calckey also give you the option to subscribe to hashtags if you prefer that.

@DJDarren Lemmy communities seem to be treated like users on the Mastodon side of things, so you can just input @ username @ domain (minus the spaces) into Mastodon's search bar and follow them like normal. The posts then get boosted into my feed where I can reply to them like any other Mastodon post. There does seem to be a warm-up period if you happen to be the first person on your Mastodon instance to follow a community, but once that's done I've found the interop to be reliable.

@malachy Glad to help! I've wanted a workable alternative to corporate social media for like 10 years at this point, so I'm happy to see an increased interest in Fediverse platforms.

@rysiek @KLISHDFSDF I'm also confused as to how marketing would work here, considering that there's no algorithm and I'm probably not following any of the hashtags they'd be using. It'd pretty much have to be a grass roots effort by Mastodon users, would it not? Or the platform itself would have to inform users that these other platforms both exist and can interop with Mastodon.
