@OpenComputeDesign@linuxrocks.online

Linux and *BSD user, hardware and software tinkerer, A bit inept.
I wanna make non-violent videogames, but despite programming for years, I have basically zero programming skills, and refuse to use a premade engine.

...I also like photography and music.

Ok so apparently bad people exist? And like, some of them don't even seem to understand how they're bad?

decides to feel bad just in case I'm one of them

:blobcatthink: I wonder if there's an easy way to boot from one of those ultra low-latency 16GB Intel Optane modules while keeping my home directory on a separate, much larger but less quick drive...

@Linux_in_a_Bit mount the optane as / and the normal ssd as /home/ ?

Well gee, I've had a rough fucking day.

Anyone who says the world is a wonderful place is fucking wrong.

@Linux_in_a_Bit I know, although positive perspectives honestly seem to make less and less sense...

Great thing about owning an old vehicle is you never have to change the oil.

...You just have to keep adding it. Frequently.

Looking at old pagers and cassette players and stuff; Man things used to be so designed for purpose.

Like, there was no "get a message, struggle your phone out, wait for it to wake up, accidentally put it back to sleep, wake it up again, unlock it, open notifications, accidentally clear notifications, look through apps to see which one gave the notification, find it, close it and reopen it because it's frozen, "an error occurred".

Just, "get a notification, look down at your belt, done"

Cassette player? Just hit play. That's it. Done.

Like, sure, it's amazing I've got this do all device in my pocket that can play music, take pictures, communicate all over the world, etc. But I hate it so much I don't use it for anything if I can avoid it. And the whole time, it's tracking me, costing me money, and this latest piece of shit has literally been automatically installing gambling games the entire time I've owned it. (How is this not illegal? What if I had a gambling addiction, what if I was a minor???)

Ok, the way the search/launcher menu on highlights an item in random as you're typing a search query (instead of highlighting the top item) so that it often opens a random file instead of the most likely match drives me NUTS.

I should just use more often, as it doesn't seem to have that quirk.

I wonder if fixes that.

@RL_Dane Plasma is the absolutely most incredible mind blowing awesome amazing advanced piece of software to ever have such prevalent and bizarre bugs imo XD

TFW you're right in the middle of having yet another existential crisis about never accomplishing anything, and yet you're still trying to start a whole new project despite knowing very well that's port of the problem

@RL_Dane Yeah. To be fair, it's 25 years old and has nearly 300,000 very rough miles on it, but this part still wouldn't have broken if it was made right!

@RL_Dane For the most part, cheap mid 2000s to mid 2010s laptops. There's a Dell Precision, an HP, a Samsung netbook, one was a nearly completely generic laptop with a built in portable DVD player chip. Pretty much all machines that other than batshit crazy quickstart features that no one would ever want to use, are completely bog standard computers just like any other
