Yes, Proton Drive for Linux is currently not being actively worked on/update: they lack developers, see post

Update: i went to reddit because there was an AMA from proton . There, they said: *The only reason why our Linux clients are lagging from a development is simply that it is extremely difficult to hire Linux Desktop developers....

Papanca,

Thank you for the link. I might try it one day, but my skills are still very basic.

Papanca,

See the edit in my post, they finally revealed the reason

Papanca,

That just came out yesterday, they added it to Drive

Papanca,

While i understand the sentiment, that would make things even more difficult to ever happen, because they would be lacking funds. Yes, i feel proton is very pricey. However, they are a company i still really trust; they have the services that are very important for me; and i consider my being a paid consumer partly as a donation, to support and encourage them.

Papanca,

I have proton unlimited. That should save up to 200 versions of each file for 10 years.

fuck the manosphere

I just want to vent a bit - I started seeing someone a few weeks ago. Old fling that I ran into through some friends that got rekindled, and I was excited that it seemed like more than just casual hookups this time. But there were some yellow flags I ignored that turned out to be red flags, and now I’m feeling frustrated and...

Papanca,

Fwiw, on social media, if one doesn’t obviously show which gender they are, they will usually be assumed to be a male. There are more women around here than some people think, and they are always adressed as bro, homie, dude, my man, and so on. So, apparently, the differences are not always as obvious as some people assume. Edited a word to correct english

Papanca,

Interesting, and i agree; i never even try to assume gender when talking to people online.

As a side note, apart from logic and rationality, i never noticed women being more emotional than men. Also, from what i’ve seen online, men often are quite talkative and the first to break the ice or share an opinion or experience.

But in the end, i prefer to look at individuals and try not to focus on labels.

Papanca,

Much healthier indeed; one will never convince people who are not open to other viewpoints anyway, and it would just suck the energy right out of you.

Papanca,

Wait, you are a woman? Just kidding. I noticed that many people, myself often included, often don’t read that carefully, or don’t pay that much attention to the usernames. It wouldn’t be the first time i’m typing a reply, say, to answer a question and only then notice that the person already added something in their text, like: i already tried this, and my reply is useless and i delete the draft.

I also don’t really care that much that people assume my gender, but whether you read carefully or not; why assume everyone here is male. I see a lot of guys commenting that there are not many women on lemmy; well duh, if you assume everyone is male… I always try to reply to people without assuming gender, but apparently, for some people that is hard.

Papanca,

A good kaki Edit: sorry, persimmons they are called in english i think

Papanca,

Nothing, but my pets get a heart attack

Papanca,

I am not allowed to give blood, because i once got a blood transfusion in the eighties and i have a tiny, tiny risk of infecting people with mad cow disease. I only found out when i decided to give blood some years back and found out i am not allowed to.

Papanca,

And to clarify; i live in Europe

Papanca,

So far, everything gets backupped automatically, but on top of this, i already am in the habit of backupping important documents by hand in files that don’t get synced. So, as soon as i’m editing important files, i backup them, on top of the sync folders. I will need to switch to manual backups anyway, since proton drive - which syncs automatically - is not yet available on linux, but they do have a web app where you can backup manually.

Papanca,

I should have clarified that i’m not copying all settings from all programs, just the ones that i use a lot and are important to me, from programs that i will have on linux as well. For instance, i already use libreoffice and will just copy the tweaks i made so as to not to reinvent the wheel.

As for disappointment; i have used Kubuntu in the far past, so it’s not like i know absolutely nothing about Linux, thankfully. In fact, when i ran the live KDE image, it was quite fun that many of the programs i used back then, still came with it, like Kate and the pdf reader and such.

Backups, good point! I already have everything important backupped on protondrive and a home server, but i will check how i can backup windows/settings; i do see two programs called Window recovery drive and Windows backup program, so will check out how that works and if that is what i would need. Thanks for your input!

Papanca,

Interesting, is it something like Syncthing? I will definitely check it out, thank you for the link!

Papanca,

Thanks for the list! Most points i already did and there are only two programs that not have an alternative, but i almost never use them. I will try to run them through Wine or something, and if it doesn’t work it would not be a big deal. Can’t wait to get rid of windows. I can’t remember why i left kubuntu behind and got back to windows in the first place.

Papanca,

It’s not brand new, but i don’t need it for gaming or anything major. Thank you for your recommendations, i will look into it!

Papanca,

Good points, hadn’t even thought about this, particularly the Wifi!

Papanca,

I haven’t used it yet, but apparently it’s not hosted by a third party and syncs between 2 computers in real time and encrypted.

Papanca,

Yes, that would not be a problem; i have a tablet, phone and i can borrow a laptop if needed.

Papanca,

KDE, thanks for the link :-)

Papanca,

Thanks, i already did that. Also, i don’t use MS Office, i use LibreOffice, so no surprises there :-)
