I think the Starmer point is crucial. Zizek is saying leftism has a moral hegemony and should act like it. Starmer is still in the foetal position and trying to appease what he thinks is a different hegemony. (While at the same time the progressive aspects of starmerism show us just how strong the leftist moral hegemony still is).

@Loukas Thanks! Yah, that's my blog. The Starmer point was meant more as illustration, really. The question of what it means for me to say I am a leftist is what's exercising me right now---because while I don't see what I believe in reflected in Starmer's project, I am increasingly finding I don't see it in the more frantically doctrinaire leftisms of the moment, either.

@PaulGrahamRaven I think I'd agree with Marcos that it's not the most important thing. What is most important is what side you take in specific struggles and class relationships. For me that has led me towards being more leftist, from my original anti-political primitivist/situationist stance.
