With spez ascending the last few remaining levels of becoming an absolute wanker, it's about time I got more active and I have been wondering how should I be using Lemmy efficiently? Like many I migrated from Reddit and I was primarly using Apollo to browse through my subscribed subreddits....
Now what might really cook your noodle is the info that the developers of the Lemmy software are pro-Russian genocide deniers, and there's a growing sentiment to not support that by dropping Lemmy in favor of kbin or something else.
Just as I was starting to get the hang of this, it feels like I stepped into another wasp nest.
Ookay, then let's look at kbin, right? Well, there's literally only ONE developer and the current version still very much a (good) beta version. So, not kbin either, then?
What's left? Beehaw, who act like snowflakes and have disconnected from where growth and interesting stuff is happening?
I feel pretty lost in the sea of the fediverse right now. Go back to Reddit? Naw, not right either.
Thank you for your comment though, you have good points, especially that Beehaw is also a Lemmy instance, and to look for one that is not operated by these people.
Hey all - sorry if these questions are very basic. I have absolutely zero console experience. I want to buy one Switch OLED for my 2 boys, for a roadtrip. The idea would be to use the desktop mode so they can play together, and also gets them the option to play single-player games one at a time....
Having been a sailor for 40 years, I am better at "red&green" than "left&right", and I always knew that red was on the left and green on the right (duh, obviously)....
Which regioin are you in? If in Region B (subject of this TIL), I guess you're not confused by the aspect that markers and nav-lights are opposite, rather than same?
In Region A, "red on red" is natural: When inbound, I will have a red lateral mark pass me by on my red navigational side. (As opposed to "red right returning" as stated in the Wiki article.)
You are definitely correct, otherwise it would be like Japanese cars having red headlights and white taillights = mayhem. I just don't grok how or why the buoys came to be different.
My Jerboa "Inbox" view starts at the top: --the navigation section (left arrow, filter, double-check-mark) / then tabs for replies, mentins,, messages --then the main content pane with the replies; each of these replies do not have any action buttons underneath them --then the bottom navigation (home, communities, inbox, bookmarks, profile).
So I can only "mark all read" but I cannot upvote or reply from this view, and notably, I cannot mark one reply as read.
What am I missing? In the link you provided, I could not find an explantion to toggle visibility of anything.
This is idiotic. Signal didn't take money from the NSA, they took money from the Broadcasting Board of Governors, which funded virtually all Internet privacy projects during the time period we're talking about, both American and otherwise; some of those dollars went to development, and still more went to contracting commercial pentests from firms like Matasano, the one I co-ran, and iSEC Partners.
This article says it's not rehashing DeVault's arguments, and it isn't; it's making an even dumber set of arguments.
I like the feeling of holding and using a phone in one hand. I am using a Pixel 5 right now but it feels a bit too large for me. I know nobody makes phone that small like the iPhone 4S or the Samsung S3 mini, but is there at least a phone smaller than the Pixel 5? Maybe around the size of a iPhone 12/13 mini?
And it's funny that it's like emojis: you've got your standard yellow, then also a black and a white edition for those who need to show the world that they care.
I think it’s kind of funny, not sure if it was intended that way. Aren’t lemmings known for following each other, even if it is clearly not the right thing to do?...
After trying everything else, his parents decided a new school might work. After some research, they decided that even though Jack had not been raised religiously, the local Catholic school's sterling reputation made it the best choice....

TIL that the red&green maritime navigational markers are the opposite in the Americas (en.wikipedia.org)

I see I have unread responses, but how do I mark them as seen/read?
I haven't figured this one out yet. I mark them as read on the website instead.

Anybody else think it’s kind of a self-dig that we’re referred to as lemmings?

How do I "share" a post or comment from Jerboa to e.g. email?

Thats not 1 comment, that's 0 comments.
Just started hosting Vaultwarden. It's freaking awesome.
It was one of the easiest to setup and it works flawlessly. I'm a bit paranoid about losing my data even with the backups.. Any recommendation?
