You can and should read the full report here. Several experts and researchers who work in a variety of fields relevant to gender and youth healthcare reviewed hundreds of studies, commissioned several literature reviews, and conducted thousands of interviews with gender diverse children, their families and healthcare providers to reach their conclusions.

To dismiss them as “conservatives who just hate other humans” and handwave away a 388-page report that took more than 3 years to complete by vaguely gesturing at some nondescript “statistics” would be extremely shortsighted.

Musk Admits He Doesn't Fact-Check Himself and Has Two Burner Accounts on Twitter (www.rollingstone.com)

Elon Musk‘s erratic posting on X, formerly Twitter, has come back to haunt him once again as a 22-year-old Jewish man pursues a defamation case over tweets in which the tech mogul baselessly suggested the recent college graduate was an undercover federal agent posing as a neo-Nazi during a street fight between far-right...

An entertaining read that further cements Musk as an honest-to-god unhinged idiot. I’ve seen a lot of people speculate that him buying Twitter and tanking its value was some kind of genius plot, but the simpler explanation is that he’s just unironically stupid and a bad businessman.

The fact that he has another burner account which he uses to get around blocks and hurl insults at others is both really funny and completely expected. I’m willing to bet a signed dollar that he has yet another alt that he uses to lean even further right and say the N-word on a regular basis.

You’re definitely not an AI, @IsThisAnAI, because an AI wouldn’t be stupid enough to defend Musk. Even Grok wouldn’t do that.

Those sample sizes weren’t particularly impressive so I went looking for more info, and according to this review the relationship between creativity and mental health depends on how creativity is conceptualized:

[…] When creativity is conceptualized or operationalized as dispositional, the association is negative, whereas it is positive when creativity is treated as a strategy (e.g., as an intervention method or regulation activity). Indeed, some studies have provided direct support for this idea. For example, Acar et al. (35) found that the approaches to measure creativity are what account for the variation in the association, with a stronger association occurring when creativity is measured by instruments focusing on creative activity and behavior than by those looking at divergent thinking tasks. Nevertheless, we also acknowledge that some alternative explanations cannot be excluded without rigorously controlled studies. For example, Paek et al. (63) conducted a meta-analysis using 89 studies to examine the overall relationships between the most common psychopathologies and little-c creativity and revealed that the overall mean effect size was not different from zero but varied, with effect sizes ranging from −0.97 to 0.95, and 54% of the total effect sizes being below zero and 44.4% of the total effect sizes being above zero. These results actually confirmed the paradoxical association between creativity and mental health. Additionally, their moderator analyses showed that effect sizes varied by the assessment of both psychopathology and creativity as well as by level of intelligence.

So it looks like creativity as a personality trait is negatively correlated with mental health, while being asked to think creatively or to complete creative tasks leads to a positive correlation.

Please tell me how an AI model can distinguish between “inspiration” and plagiarism then.

[…] they just spit out something that it “thinks” is the best match for the prompt based on its training data and thus could not make this distinction in order to actively avoid plagiarism.

I’m not entirely sure what the argument is here. Artists don’t scour the internet for any image that looks like their own drawings to avoid plagiarism, and often use photos or the artwork of others as reference, but that doesn’t mean they’re plagiarizing.

Plagiarism is about passing off someone else’s work as your own, and image-generation models are trained with the intent to generalize - that is, being able to generate things it’s never seen before, not just copy, which is why we’re able to create an image of an astronaut riding a horse even though that’s something the model obviously would’ve never seen, and why we’re able to teach the models new concepts with methods like textual inversion or Dreambooth.

I always wondered how this business model of “free and open source everything” would work out. While it’s a nice sentiment it’s obviously a money sink, and there’s a reason basically every other attempt at monetizing AI stays behind closed doors.

But the costs associated with so much compute were now threatening to sink the company. According to an internal October financial forecast seen by Forbes, Stability was on track to spend $99 million on compute in 2023. It noted as well that Stability was “underpaying AWS bills for July (by $1M)” and “not planning to pay AWS at the end of October for August usage ($7M).” Then there were the September and October bills, plus $1 million owed to Google Cloud and $600,000 to GPU cloud data center CoreWeave. (Amazon, Google and CoreWeave declined to comment.)

Jeez, and here I am just fiddling around with my own little projects on Kaggle with a budget of $0.

Edit:

Another former Stability executive was far more pointed in their assessment. “Emad is the most disorganized leader I have ever worked with in my career,” this person told Forbes. “He has no vision, and changes directions every week, often based on what he sees on Twitter.”

lmao

As the other commenter said, Claude 3 Opus appears to be gaining some popularity. A few days ago this video appeared on my recommended where bycloud compared ChatGPT and GPT-4 to Claude 3, and according to him the latter is much better: youtu.be/YfMHmhWWHV0

Updating an old project of mine with new Tensorflow syntax (files.catbox.moe)

About a year ago I created the notebook “Generating Images of Variable Size with StyleGAN2” to try to combine a variety of different GAN algorithms and papers into a cohesive Kaggle notebook. However Tensorflow syntax has changed a lot since then, and if you were to run the notebook with version 2.15.0 it wouldn’t work, so...

I thought “Raddix Zephyr” might’ve been inspired by the sorting algorithm, but that’s not the name of its creator nor the algorithm, which is actually spelled “Radix”.

All those -eigh names are pretty funny though. Your kid ain’t a horse! It’s not gonna neigh!

And I thought my idea of naming my kid Asrah was already pretty out there lol

The gap in support for violence between the right and the left is smaller, but when it comes to actual acts of violence it is indeed mainly a right-wing problem.

Honestly you still could believe it from a secular interpretation of the bible. Many of the verses talking about the antichrist are clearly warning about the rise of a fascist strongman, and unsurprisingly Trump fits them perfectly.
