Finished up a paper that I started collecting data for in 2017. I sent it to my co-authors for the "if I don't hear from you I'm submitting in two weeks" and I cannot believe the tension being lifted from my shoulders as I hit send.

Its an exciting time of year in the garden, baskets of tomatoes most days, lots of peppers and herbs. Made 8 quarts of tomato sauce over the weekend, now canned and on the shelf. Looking forward to tasty dinners ahead.

The beans I recently planted are a few inches tall and doing well, fall carrots are starting to spourt. Okra is about a foot tall and thriving.

Always stinks to get a grant rejection. I'm glad I'm at a point in my professional life that it doesn't ruin my day, but it is still disappointing.

Rejection is a part of doing science, and these ideas are good ones, and we'll work to find money to fund them somewhere else.

I try to be transparent about how much I experience in my career, and I track paper and grant rejections on my website if you are curious

Had the neighbors over last night to cook some hotdogs over the campfire

the two kiddos got interested in my garden and we ended up wandering around picking tomatoes and peppers and mint and snacking on them for awhile

and my heart is so full, joy over fresh food makes me so happy

though apparently my mint is 'too minty' :)

Also little kid arms are very good at reaching deep into tomatoes plants, to get the ripe cherry tomatoes I need to remember this for the future.

RallidaeRule,

@acdha yah they were very excited to hear I have raspberry plants, though since the rabbits nibbled them down this spring no berries this year, hopefully next year

I've been trying to disuade the rabbits from eating my pepper plants for a month or so

Yesterday my 13 year old dog just ate a pepper right off the plant

So clearly I need to think more broadly about garden pests

She was very pleased with herself though

Glad to see the issue of unpaid and underpaid positions in and more broadly highlighted in this article in Audubon Magazine

We are making progress, but much more is needed
