I live in the Cape Fear area of North Carolina and we are dealing with this. Chemors, the maker of Teflon, has been dumping PFAS in our water.

My town recently built a reverse osmosis water treatment plant. It is the only way to get it out of the water. Traditional water filters don’t work.

I have been in IT for 30 years. This has been a recurring theme for at least 20 of those years. It has gone by different names but the idea hasn’t changed. Web technology has come a long way but there are too many developers still writing traditional apps to kill the OS completely. While new greenfield apps may be web first, most of the corporate world is running on legacy apps that are tied to the OS.

The article points out that the strength of the Fediverse is also it’s downside. Federated moderation makes it challenging to consistently moderate CSAM.

We have seen it even here with the challenges of Lemmynsfw. In fact they have taken a stance that CSAM like images with of age models made to look underage is fine as long as there is some dodgy ‘age verification’

The idea is that abusive instances would get defederated, but I think we are going to find that inadequate to keep up without some sort of centralized reporting escalation and ai auto screening.

Kodak did this a few years but the big printer companies slashed prices in the printers to next to nothing. Kodaks $200 printer with cheap ink, huge cartridges, and no chips didn’t sell well when Canon would have a similar printer (scan, print, etc) for $49 next to it. Consumers are dumb.

Brother’s eco tank is close… but if they are killing that off in the name of ink selling greed as this meme suggests…

Besides, they go with my outfit no matter what color my cargo shorts or polo is… which happens to be the official uniform of !dadjokes; and that is where you happen to be. This is an amazing punnerific Dad Joke. I know because I tried it on my son and got an audible groan of approval. So, scamper on back to yiffit.net or wherever you came from if that is all you have.

I ran into it somewhere and thought it was !dadjoke material based on the pun, no political opinions intended. I grew up on a cattle farm so I know where the cows come from.

I feel like we see an article like this every year. A 1-2% gain isn’t what I consider “much” better. It is an incremental change in a positive direction it isn’t going to revolutionize the industry.

Lemmy IOS apps

Anyone try several of the Lemmy IOS apps? Which ones work the best with Voiceover? I just tried memmy and it’s generally usable but the downvote and upvote buttons aren’t accessible and the edit boxes for creating new posts are not as usable as I’d like. I did submit some feedback on this but obviously it’s a new app and...

FYI Memmy up/down vote is done by swiping right on a post. It uses similar haptics to the old Reddit Apollo app.

Is there a Lemmy Enhancement Suite, or a better way to view lemmy through a browser than the default view?

I have been using Memmy on Apple for browsing mobile and it is fantastic. But if I happen to be on my desktop and just browse to lemmy.world the experience is a bit underwhelming. Is there a better way to desktop/browser lemmy? (Do we call looking at lemmy the lemmy?)

I was coming here to say this. They have sold 1.8 million copies in a week. 64k active players right now.

Developed by 3 guys. The graphics are intentionally low poly but the shooter is deep with well modeled weapons, drivable/flyable vehicles, well designed maps, and a nearly full destructible world.
