Is there a name for this sort of object? I need something like this, but don't know what to type into the webs (lemmy.world)

I’m going to convert my computer chair from pneumatic to static. I’m currently using plastic clasps that are held on with jubilee clips, but they’re not great and need replaced (I’m a heavy lad). A sturdy metal version would be better....

Would Lemmy Benefit from Implementing Polls? (slrpnk.net)

A popular way of dealing with discussions, and familiar to most people, I assume. As far as I see it, adding a poll system to Lemmy is a good way to enhance user engagement. I’m not really aware if this has been a topic before or not, tried looking it up but didn’t see much juice on the topic, so thought I’d spark it up....

One way encryption, same way passwords are stored.

Open polls are one of the few good things about Facebook.

“I want them to be taught that there are gay people in the world and that they must be treated with respect and affection as I treat my own gay friends and colleagues with respect and affection but I don’t want my children to be taught that these things are equal because I don’t believe them to be equal.”

Maybe I’m being naive, but as a gay dude I don’t see what he’s saying as hateful. I’m not sure what adjective fits though, “pedantic” doesn’t seem quite right.

The hitperson is the only competent employee left at Boeing.

“Hitperson” makes it sound like some HR-designated position, awkwardly titled in some neutral, milquetoast way as not to offend anyone.

That was intentional, I’m happy someone noticed.

They aren’t “real” people either way, even the human ones are just drones reading a script that someone paid them to read.

The old files would still be in the commit history anyway.

Does color change how hot a laser can get something?

For convenience sake let’s say you have 2 identical lasers, one is blue and one is red. And you shine it on lead (so none of the light leaks through) until the lead doesn’t heat up anymore. Would the temperature change at all between the different color lasers. It doesn’t have to be red or blue, it could be microwave or x...

doesn’t have to be red or blue, it could be microwave or x ray

Technically those wouldn’t be LASER (light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.) but MASER or XASER.

I’m probably the only asshole left that cares about this though.

Eh, most of those will just be scrapers, and fediverse inter-server communication is technically a bot.

The military isn’t buying from Amazon, they buy from “xyz hardware supplies ltd”, who buy from Amazon and charge three times the price to the military.

Some will be companies that specialise in sourcing obsolete hardware, who just buy shit off Amazon/eBay and issue the correct paperwork.

I’ve read that the US government has to give preference in contract bids to small businesses, veteran owned, woman owned, etc, businesses, which is great in theory, but it can create situations like this.

I suspect the plausible deniability of responsibility is a feature not a bug to many of the bureaucrats.

Isn’t that a good thing? If facebook bans them they may actually learn what opsec means.

I expected it to not be available to consumers yet, but you can buy a Banana Pi BPI-F3 with it on aliexpress.

Nakajima still make some electronic daisy wheel typewriters.

A couple of companies still make manual typewriters, but they are widely regarded as garbage.

That said a lot of old typewriters, especially manual ones, will work fine, and the ribbons are widely available.

How do you build complex shapes? (i.imgur.com)

I’ve made a large number of custom prints, and all of them were created using TinkerCad. It’s an amazing toolkit, stupid easy to use but versatile. That is … until something needs a tiny adjustment somewhere. That’s when I feel it would’ve been neat to use parametric CAD instead....

RobotToaster,
@RobotToaster@mander.xyz avatar

“Wedge shaped”? as in at an angle, or tapered?

If you want tapered then openSCAD has scaled extrusion or hulls. I think Fusion has similar tools.

The way I do this in TinkerCad is that I build the hollow first

Open SCAD calls that “difference”, I think fusion calls it a cut.

If you’re working in fusion you usually want to start with a 2d sketch and extrude it. You would make each holder as a component and then attach them later.

It’s possible he destroyed his documents, so they don’t know where “home” is for him.

Or his home country won’t accept him back.

Or paying him £3k is cheaper than all the appeals he could mount.

Galloway's Workers Party to stand candidates everywhere in challenge to Labour (morningstaronline.co.uk)

“Unveiling the largest left-of-Labour electoral challenge in history, Mr Galloway, who returned to the Commons in the Rochdale by-election in February, said the party was speaking to three Labour MPs about their possible defection.”...

That can be changed, arguably that’s what he’s trying to change.
