I was at the grocery store last night and every checkout line was very backed up. A pair of women with an extremely full shopping cart got into the 15-items-or-less line and caused further delays by asking questions about the prices of many items, and having the wrong items for coupons they had (necessitating them going back to the aisles to get the right items).

The customer in front of me, who was buying a gallon of milk and a box of cereal got increasingly disgruntled over how long it was taking and started talking shit to the cashier for letting the women bring their giant order through the express line.

The cashier didn't really know what to say, so he was deflecting, and I felt bad for him. When he left to go get a bottle of alcohol from the locked liquor cases, the disgruntled customer turned to me and apologized for making a scene.

I told him it was fine, but he shouldn't be getting mad at the cashier because retail employees aren't really allowed to say anything to bad customers.

When the cashier came back, the disgruntled customer apologized to him several times, and said he knows he's just trying to do his job.

And then he started talking shit to the two women instead.

@MLE_online All our grocery stores offer multiple self-checkout lanes, probably about 8 self-checkout stations. I love it. Assisted checkout is also available.👍🏼

@MLE_online Our stores have a at least one ‘helper’ in the self-checkout area who assists in verifying age or dealing with scanning issues. Seems to work well for me.

I keep my filaments stored in vacuum sealed plastic bags. It is kind of a pain to deal with: a nuisance to open and reseal and storing them is far from neat or efficient.

I’m wondering if it is really worth the trouble except for a couple of really absorptive types. I often see photos where people store them in the open.

One of my current web pet peeves: sites that tell me I’m using an adblocker and ask me to disable it but still fail to load even when I comply. I don’t think they’re helping themselves… 😖

We went crazy and bought an automated bread maker (Zojirushi). I was a bit skeptical but our first loaf (white bread) turned out amazing. Even the kids and in-law were impressed. I wanted to make a wheat loaf today too but it turns out we lacked one ingredient.

A day I’ve long dreaded has arrived. When I moved from my iMac to the Mac mini I started from scratch which gave me the pleasure of not having Visual Studio Code soiling the disk of the mini. But now I need to make changes to an old project built using PlatformIO and hence I am installing VSS. Shiver 😢

Made a lunch visit to the Philippines. The mango/pineapple drink was mighty tasty.

One of my favorite features of the kagi.com search engine is the ability to block any site(s) I choose from search results. E.g. today the top search result for a technical query was one with nags for ad unblocking and paying for membership before I have even seen any of their content. Insta-ban. 👍🏼

@shawnhooper I’ve been a subscriber for several months (6?) and I really like it. I previously used DDG but kept running into cases where it wouldn’t return the results I needed forcing me to Google or Bing. I don’t seem to find that necessary with kagi. Of course YMMV.

The young couple staying with us lost the only key to their car. It is a newer model with a key fob and the local dealer quoted $600 to replace it plus it would need to be towed to the dealer. Also, it would take 3 days to get a replacement fob. An automotive locksmith might be cheaper or faster but still it is a hit to their budget and plan to depart today. Feel sorry for them.☹️

@Tay0 I could be wrong but I think @jbaty might have one. Not sure if he ever uses it with Linux.

Feeling powerful 😉 I was able to fix the arrow key on my son’s MacBook Air with $12 in parts. The repair shop doesn’t fix keys so it would have been a $400 keyboard replacement. 😅

Not a good evening. We got hit by golf ball sized hail which took out one of our front windows. Blew glass throughout the room. It also shattered the back window on our daughter’s car and of course dented the body. Already called a roofer and started our insurance claims. At least it wasn’t a tornado.🤷🏻‍♂️

I received a set of Prusament PLA today. I was really fond of the Lipstick Red when I first got one of those earlier this year. But the Royal Blue has my eye now. It is a thing of beauty!
