Loom may not exactly be obscure by any standard, but I don't see it being mentioned nearly as much as, say, Day of the Tentacle or Monkey Island. But it was a truly revolutionary way of reimagining the adventure game genre, and in a very early age of point-and-click. No inventory, single mouse click interaction, using spells to...
Here, I'll start. When I was 8 years old, my parents went to a dinner party and plonked me down in front of the host's computer so I'd stay out of their way. The game they booted up to keep me occupied was Space Quest II. Little did they know what impact that would have on me...
Do you have a YouTube or Twitch channel about adventure games? Do you run a blog? Maybe a Discord server? Do you post interesting things about adventure games someplace I can't think of right now because hot damn there are a lot of social media right now?...

Ah, uh... turns out I can't upload an avatar. I keep getting a json error. I think it's because my avatar png is too big. I'll think of something later. Not a biggie in my book.
Ooh, is there a clever way of "tagging" someone like you just did with me? Or do I have to do it the hard way (i.e. go look up your user profile url and write out the markdown each time)? Just typing @cidney doesn't seem to do what I would foolishly assume it would do...
Perhaps youโll get a chuckle out of this. I played Doom (and Wolfenstein 3D) in that most glorious of all color palettes: cyan/magenta CGA (with PC speaker sound)....
I was nudged towards looking into Matrix, the fedi-alternative to Discord, to see if I should set up a chat space for adventure game fans... and it turns out I didn't have to. One already exists!...
Whatโs your favorite interface in adventure games? Doesnโt necessarily have to be the most perfect or easy to use; just the one that youโre the most partial to....
ScummVM dev Sluicebox just blew the doors to the Sierra kingdom wide open. He wrote a decompiler that annotates the decompiled scripts flawlessly so thereโs no more guesswork as to โuh, I wonder what โglobal34โ does.โ...
Wait, who downvoted this? ๐ Iโm not mad, Iโm just curious as to how a link to an interview could make someone go, โNope, this is trash. To the pit of Hades with you.โ
This is a fantastic article. Iโm actually working on a 7th Guest/11th Hour retrospective video (probably because Iโve got Stauf on my brain due to our Kickstarter), and this article is pretty much my go-to reference. I havenโt seen a lot of videos touch on the howโs and whyโs of those games โ YouTubers seem mostly content with just snarking at the hammy acting and the slow node transitions โ and I kinda wanna make a video that explains why that isโฆ while also snarking at the hammy acting and slow node transitions. ๐
@adventuregames Test posting from Mastodon. Please ignore this. I'm new to this and vulnerable, like a faun in the woods... but tough, like a faun with a machine gun!
Wellโฆ It works, but a couple of notes (mostly to myself, but, experts, feel free to weigh in) for the future:
Donโt lead with the โ@adventuregamesโ tag. Itโs messy.
Keep titles short, 'cos it copies the contents of the post as the title.
Figure out if thereโs a way to split title and post content in the Mastodon toot, so the post content isnโt just a copy of the title.
I canโt edit the post after the fact ('cos my Mastodon user and Lemmy user are, as far as this platform is concerned, two different people), and Iโm worried if I edit the toot on Mastodon, itโll just post a new thread here instead of editing the existing one.

Do dogs like bringing back balls and sticks because it's really helpful if your spear or sling shot misses the mammoth?
