Sequentialsilence,

I was on a camping trip in Panama, and because there’s no service in the jungle, didn’t know that a hurricane was coming. I rode out hurricane David in a tent on the side of a mountain.

Surprisingly I’m no longer a fan of camping.

Sequentialsilence,

Don’t even go that far, just say “Terrorists set fire to UN relief headquarters.” It’s just vague enough to rile up everyone no matter what side you’re on, you get clicks from all sides and you don’t end up with a mono ideological following.

Sequentialsilence, (edited )

Ignoring the fact that you would go east to reach Hawaii from Japan, because it’s in the northern hemisphere, it would actually curve up not down, and because both japan and Hawaii are close-ish to the equator the curve would be relatively flat.

Fun fact because every country charges you for every nautical mile flown in their airspace, you will actually get lines that zigzag and are less fuel efficient because they are paying less for airspace miles. Example. If you fly from Chicago to Paris or Dubai, you don’t actually head east first, you first head northeast into Canadian airspace and bypass the New England area because Canadian airspace is cheaper than U.S. airspace.

Sequentialsilence,

Their ability to smile and nod while getting yelled at for something they can’t fix.

May not be applicable to certain trades, but in general if you’re able to tell people to fuck off, you’re relatively financially secure.

What are some songs that you associate with it's original meaning than what people always associate it with?

For example, I remember the time when American Idiot by Green Day came out in 2004. The song “Wake Me Up When September Ends” was everywhere on the radio. The song is about the death of the vocalist’s father dying when he was age 10....

Sequentialsilence,

Pumped up kicks. For some reason people don’t process the line “better run, better run, faster than my bullet.” It’s about columbine the bassist had a cousin had a cousin who went to columbine when the shooting happened.

What's a band that has one album that is just about perfect in your opinion, but rest of their discography misses the mark with you?

One of mine is Commit This to Memory by Motion City Soundtrack. I basically took the title verbatim and know the album word for word. And while I would love if it did, the rest of MCS’s stuff just doesn’t hit the same way....

Sequentialsilence,

P.O.D. I legitimately did not know they released other albums because Satellite was that good. I listened to them. I shouldn’t have.

Sequentialsilence,

Judging based on how badly it’s bent it’s used as a persuasion device (hammer) when you don’t want to be within arms reach, like when dealing with explosive shells.

Sequentialsilence,

Along the length of the ladder. That style of ladder, when it’s folded up, like in the photo, should have the feet perpendicular to each other and touching, not offset like they are here.

Sequentialsilence,

Good point on the BBQ. The differences between regions is substantial, and although you may not like one region’s BBQ, you may very well love another region’s. I for one am not a fan of the vinegar based BBQ, but a good dry rub, or mustard base, I am all there.

Sequentialsilence,

Avatar: The last airbender

Because it’s good.

Sequentialsilence,

I do a lot of video editing. 3 monitors all the same size. Right is main edited output. Center is all my editing tools. Left is file management, chat, stock footage, etc.

Sequentialsilence,

Obviously agree with everyone else here, I just wanted to add a personal tangent. Right before the crypto boon back in 2019-2020, I called that AI was going to be the next big thing and to invest in it. Obviously we’re seeing that, but I honestly think we probably only have about another year and a half to 2 of the AI gravy train before it does a dot com burst, and people realize it’s true value. It got so overinflated so fast people will eventually realize it’s just pattern recognition and matching and it can’t solve everything, then it will die down.

The next one that will come is quantum computing in about 6-7 years. Not because it can “compute better than regular computers” but because quantum is able to spit out approximations so much faster than regular computers, it will have a huge boon in cloud based physics rendering, and large dataset analysis.

Sequentialsilence,

I pretty much only world build in TTRPG’s. As a result I use AI a lot in world building, for everything from landmasses, to city layouts, to individual NPC’s. Because by the time I get down to the details of the story, the players choices have shaped the story being told, and I no longer have to world build, I just react as the NPC’s.

Sequentialsilence,

Thankfully Yamaha actually makes good stuff. Doesn’t really matter what it is. If it says Yamaha on it it’s at minimum decent.

Sequentialsilence,

I do not think having an AirBNB or any BNB counts, as those are temporary arrangements similar to a hotel. They can also make good use of a property that normally would not be in use. One of my friends is a musician, she lives half of the time in Nashville, because recording studios and producers, and half of her time in Montana where she’s from. Whatever house she’s not living in at the time gets rented out as an AirBNB. I would consider that acceptable, she’s actually using both places, and when she’s not in one, she’s putting it to good use.

In my eyes a landlord is someone who sits on a property, maybe maintains it, maybe not, and makes someone else pay their bills.

I’m lucky enough to own my own place, but one of my coworkers is paying what I pay for my mortgage in rent every month, and he has less space than I do. What is his landlord doing to get a $1800 check every month? Absolutely nothing. That’s not OK. At least apartment buildings typically have amenities. Don’t get me wrong I’m still not a fan of apartment buildings, but they can be done right, they just usually aren’t.

Sequentialsilence,

I personally put it in the same category as a hotel. It is a necessary service for people who are traveling and need a place to sleep and relax for a week or two. Definitely not a long term thing. That is what differentiates AirBNB from renting, is you don’t expect to live at an AirBNB.

Sequentialsilence,

Honestly, I’d chuckle to myself and then let them know that doesn’t absolve them of the decades of hell they put hundreds of kids through by being very vocal against it in community leadership. They have some cleanup to do. I’ll help with the cleanup, but you got some cleanup to do.

Sequentialsilence,

Having lived in both, big city no question. People stay out of your shit there.

Sequentialsilence,

I’m a production manager for events, so I design and run events and concerts.

I called up a bunch of production companies in the area, let them know I was coming to town, gave them a short list of some of the stuff I’ve done, and now I work full time as a freelancer for all the events that come through town.

Sequentialsilence,

Event industry kinda be like that though. It’s always looking for people, because the hours are shit, the labor is hard, and if you do your job right no one knows you did anything at all.

So yea, if you have experience in the field you can walk up in any city and say give me a job, and you get a job.

Sequentialsilence,

My entire career path.

I knew I liked concerts, and knew that people had to run that equipment, so I decided to get a job in an event company warehouse to learn what was happening. About 2 months in a sales guy apparently oversold a job and came running downstairs asking if anyone knew how to do video. No one did. So I said “have you got the manuals? I’ll learn.” He said, “Great! You’re going out on a North American arena tour in 6 weeks, good luck.”

Talk about getting thrown into it. I was the projector tech for a show that was running 10 screens and I had never touched a projector before then. I thankfully had a director who realized the crap I was in and helped me out.

That was almost 15 years ago now, I’m no longer on the road, but I’m still in it. Every show is different and every show is a learning experience.

Sequentialsilence,

I fell off a stage while holding an HD broadcast camera in the early 00’s. Those were really expensive back then. Ruined about $160k worth of gear.
