Alaska colds hit differently than Midwestern colds. In Wisconsin I'd catch a cold and be sniffly or stuffy but otherwise can still before basic tasks: going into work sick wasn't uncommon. I currently feel like I'm in the process of swallowing a lit charcoal briquette. Otherwise fine, actually, little headache.

Had a really good, deep conversation with my closest cousin last night after kicking it with my coworkers at the brewery. It was one of them's last day, so we had a little after hours refreshment. I'm really starting to feel like this is where I'm going to be living for the foreseeable future. Settling down roots and all that.

Had a nice, quiet l'il weekend getaway to Talkeetna. My first time there, and the furthest North I've been so far, at 62. I recited a passage from the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam in our yurt, got the best wood fired pizza I've had in a long time at the Denali Brewing Company tasting room, and just generally had a nice day in a quiet place. There was more air traffic than I expected, which was neat with the most aircraft equipped with skis I've seen in flight. Good time at the Fairview, too.

Even at less than 2 million active users, I think we’re starting to see the positive network effects of mastodon’s human-centered platform

Longer posts, editing, and local moderation and ownership just make for better conversations and exchanges of ideas. Obviously there are some glaring flaws and inequities, but I think the fediverse’s successes are cool enough to justify continued work to solve its problems for sure.
