First edition published by Peter Christen Asbjørnsen (1847) compared with a posthumous edition edited by Moltke Moe (1914).

Elves have been replaced with hulders.

Is this a pointer concerning how we may interpret the hulder folk?

Could you please help me find some folklore?

The Brothers Grimm recorded the story "Der süße Brei" about a magic porridge pot.
When instructed, it produces food until told to stop. One day, the owner forgets the magic word and the village is engulfed in porridge.

If you are NOT German or English-speaking, does your culture have a similar cautionary tale?
If so, what foodstuff is it about?

Thanks gang, boosts appreciated.

@Edent Norwegian: Porridge.

Let us speak of . Thirteen , a thread:

  1. Teolls are Norwegian. There are 150 texts in The Complete Norwegian Folktales and Legends of Asbjørnsen & Moe; 66 of them either feature or mention trolls. (42 of them feature or mention parsons.)

  1. Trolls may live in families. Some of them live alone. There are young trolls and old trolls.

  1. Trolls come in different sizes. Some are so big that they can wrap themselves around cabins; some of them are smaller than a human.

  1. At least one troll commanded a dragon as its messenger.
SimonRoyHughes,

  1. Trolls are afraid of cats. Or they're afraid of bears, but think that bears are cats.
SimonRoyHughes,
@SimonRoyHughes@thefolklore.cafe avatar
  1. Trolls are stupid. One even sliced open its own belly so it would be able to eat more porridge.
SimonRoyHughes,
@SimonRoyHughes@thefolklore.cafe avatar
  1. Trolls live in mountains or in mounds or in the hills or in the forest or in the sea – anywhere folk aren't.
SimonRoyHughes,
@SimonRoyHughes@thefolklore.cafe avatar
  1. Trolls hate the smell of Christian men. (They'll happily marry Christian women, though.)
SimonRoyHughes,
@SimonRoyHughes@thefolklore.cafe avatar
  1. Three trolls may share one eye between them.
SimonRoyHughes,
@SimonRoyHughes@thefolklore.cafe avatar
  1. Trolls hate noisy neighbours. They'll move in with their relatives to win some peace.
SimonRoyHughes,
@SimonRoyHughes@thefolklore.cafe avatar
  1. Trolls eat goats.
SimonRoyHughes,
@SimonRoyHughes@thefolklore.cafe avatar
  1. The purpose of trolls in tales and legends is to be defeated and/ or die.

Font samples. At the top is Libertine, which is invisibly readable, although quite pretty upon inspection. At the bottom is Antykwa Półtawskiego, which is tiring to read, despite being very pretty and visually interesting (note the descenders on g, j, y, and the unusual form of w).

My search for a stunning but readable typeface continues. @writingcommunity @reading

“And everyone agreed that they knew of no man so generous and liberal, or so manly in every respect, as Svein the Fearless.”

Svein the Fearless sounds like a Viking hero, and had he been born in another age, perhaps he might have been. Here, though, he demonstrates his heroism by staying put in church for a night.

“Svein the Fearless,” by Ivar Aasen.

Checking out , and finding that it's like a Mastodon with loads of extra features but no users, no mobile apps, no even budding community, etc. It's like trying to use Google Drive as a social network.
