Sat down at 9:00 this morning thinking I would start in to converting a bunch of slides/notes/course material from RMarkdown to Quarto and three and a half hours of yak-shaving later I have made no progress whatsoever and instead find myself far, far down a rabbit hole wondering if it’s feasible to write something that will parse the AST of the files so that I can systematically make the many required adjustments. (To be clear, it absolutely is not.)

@quadrivial @kjhealy Lots of things in finance were. But I think the most important thing about that era was that it was probably the last time that recent high finance CEOs could be found on the streets selling shoelaces.

The old guard has been pretty good at arranging things so that this doesn't happen ever since. SBF thinking he belongs to some sort of new guard ... sorry, I have to take a break to laugh for a few minutes

@ZachWeinersmith Classical Mechanics by Douglas Gregory, Essential Statistical Physics by Malcolm Kennett (for work) and Shostakovich's second piano concerto (for my daughter).

And yes, I'm a little ashamed when I realize how much time passes between my book purchases.

@yvonnezlam For me, automating a repetitive, boring task is not so much about avoiding (or inducing) boredom. It is about me not trusting my own result at a repetitive, boring task unless a computer algorithm delivers the same.

@yvonnezlam Realized I have a case in point right now: I've got grading coming up, and I don't trust the final result until both me with my pocket calculator and the algorithm I defined in the learning platform get the same result for my grading formula.
