After I started sharing dad jokes my followers have doubled in sighs.

SingingNala,

@dgar I think I started following this account because of a dad joke. So I chuckled at that.

I know how Mastodon server/instance migration works on principle, as I've done a server migration before. But @simon and I were discussing the migration process. And we realized that neither of us know how to migrate posts from one instance to another. And this is a topic of which we are curious to get to the bottom. Has anyone found newer data on this issue than what was available a year ago? Inquiring minds would like to know.

SingingNala,

@simon @jscholes Exactly. As people who like to host things, we're kind of interested in the more micro semantics here.

And this is why friends don't let friends use Expedia. Booked a ticket for cad417 on March 10. Checked my flight confirmation yesterday. I was charged cad553 instead. Expedia said, we are happy to help if you have a screen shot of the check-out page. Me to them: As my booking partner, I trusted you to honor the price promised and did not think I needed to screen shot that page. Agent: We appreciate your trust in us as a booking partner, but as that partner, we trust that our systems would never issue a price not promised to you. Me back: I wouldn't have believed it either, but I just saw this happen with my own eyes. This is my first experience, and I will never do business with you again. Have a great day. Agent: You too, m'am...

Live and learn.

Wow. From r/exjw Discord:
this is amazing. someone reverse engineered the McDonalds api to make a site that maps every McDonalds and shows if the ice-cream machine is broken or working. https://mcbroken.com/
mcbroken
is the mcdonald's ice cream machine broken?

New food learns from Canada: What we call skillet meals in our grocery stores, Canada Wallmart sometimes refers to these as pasta kits. Always interesting to see how things are marketed differently. Remember, we also have pizza bites instead of pizza rolls. And we have french toaster sticks instead of french toasticks. French toaster sticks look different too. They're basically slices of french toast that you can rip apart at clearly defined tactile lines. Wow.

SingingNala,

@simon @quanin found pizza bites at Wallmart in Ontario. So I think your Wallmart just sucks. :P

So. Ubuntu running great on the GPD Pocket so far. Don't worry, I still have my Windows partition and have confirmed it is still bootable.

SingingNala,

@Bri @simon just showed me his GPD Win. I'm in love.

SingingNala,

@simon @Bri Okay. That was a word match error. I was talking to Steve about the GPD Win that same day he showed the micro to me. Whoops. Giggle.

So it looks like @simon's neighbor has sattelite radio and just likes to listen to good stations. IE, 80's on 8, 90's on 9, the 90's grunge and alternative channel. Simon's like, we should play shit back at them. But he wasn't sure what to play. I just started playing back random shit from my library. We had fun. Nope we didn't annoy more of the neighbors. Lol.

Just paid $157 for 2-day international shipping with UPS because I accidentally left my airPods max at someone's house in the US. I had the money to eat the cost, but my brain hurts when considering that price. Years ago, I sent a laptop, valued at around the same price, to my friend Kyle. Now, granted, it was going from New Jersey to New York State, but I only paid $20 for that shipment. The cheapest I could have spent to ship and insure an international shipment of $600 was $97. Ow. That'll teach me to not forget anything in the US when crossing the border. Just, ow ow ow. That shipping. Wow.

On hold with a call center that is using standard PBX hold music when all of a sudden, @simon starts playing the same hold music right along with mine. Oh my gosh the stereo effect. Gap Tangle and I started cracking up at the improv geekyness. This is one of the many reasons we love Simon.

So I didn't know poutine was a full meal. I thought it was a snack. I stand corrected. Got mine with chicken and cheese. I'm a total fan. Thanks Canada!

Watching Big Bang Theory in Arizona. It feels bittersweet. The first time I watched this show was the summer of 2010, after an event which has triggered countless trauma loops. But in this moment, it's just a show. And I'm watching it with someone who knows about my trauma, not someone I had to hide it from. So, instead of safe songs today, I suppose it's a safe show today. Totally okay with that. Hope all are having a good evening. As for me, Phoenix is treating me well this day. Visiting the place of my trauma, but I'm reseting those memories by creating good ones. Warm energy to all.

I have friends who love to grace me with the presence of AI covers that figuratively walk the world of YouTube. One of them is Steve. Imagine the late Chester Bennington covering a Hoobastank song. Oh wait. You don't have to. You can click this link and also have AI Chester stuck in your brain. Enjoy, friends, assuming you find AI covers as amusing as I do. Welcome to the musical world of 2024. https://youtube.com/watch?v=WYQS1ccuXMs&si=0XX8PjWOiE7GFYIx

SingingNala,

@simon I would imagine so. But I haven't tried.

Tech conundrum of the day: Why would a Voiceover user not be able to type in an edit field on an iPad using a keyboard? Quick keys are off. VO lock is off. Caps lock is a VO modifier key. When a letter is typed, we are told that a number of emojis are found, as if the fn key was pressed. This is not my issue, but I can’t think of how to solve it beyond resetting or restoring. Hmmm.

I pulled an Alison. I am now the proud owner of an iPhone 15 pro max. I've wanted a max for awhile now, and finally I have one. I love my new tech toy. It also happens to be a good productivity tool.

SingingNala,

@lcabookwormks Honestly, the battery life is so worth it. I was looking for an all-day device. And I feel like I finally have one again.

SingingNala,
SingingNala,

@simon @tmmahaff @lcabookwormks I love it when you teach me things that I don't know. :)
