Subumbral

@Subumbral@mastodon.sdf.org

I organize books for fun at the public library. Knit, crochet, cook, read a lot, walk a lot , look at things. Small menagerie of birds and squirrels. Petsitter.

Lived in Venice Beach in the 60's, Utah in the 70's, and Oregon ever since. Big fan of Alaska, Seattle, San Francisco, New York, and Hawaiian Beaches.

All photos are by me on a phone camera, unless credited.

Avatar photo is me wearing an orchid. Banner photo is a skein of waterfowl in the skies above Eugene.

I love the smell of marinara. The whole house smells incredible,ble. It reminds me of growing up, when my grandma would visit and make her 10-hour sauce. That stuff was magic.

@dancinyogi My mother was making this when I recovered from my first big migraine, I was so hungry. I've always associated the smell with healing.

@theotherotherone @librarians @bookstodon Our library uses separate floors, which may not be practical, but all of the fiction is alphabetical by author. Nonfiction is numerical by subject.

SWFL Eagle Cam is still going, of course. E22 is still there, and you never know if E21 will come back and spend more time.

The offseason for this cam is from June through October.

During that time, I will post about the Brooks Falls bears in Katmai National Park in Alaska. Will Otis return? Who will win Fat Bear Week?
Here's the link. Check out the highlights. The cams should be active in July.

SWFL Eagle Cam

I think we can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that if they had to go off on their own today, E21 and E22 would be JUST fine. Who would have thought that was possible when Harriet died, and M15 became a single parent? I know I had doubts!!'

A midlife crisis is defined as a period of emotional turmoil in middle age, around 40 to 60 years old, characterized by a strong desire for change.

I realize this poll only applies to those in that age bracket and that other ages are excluded, but this is age-specific.

Did you have a mid-life crisis, or are you having one now?

Subumbral,
@Subumbral@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@dancinyogi I had one in my early forties, standing in a used book store. I realized I hadn't read any Jane Austen, then looked around and realized I would never be able to read all the books. (I did read Jane Austen)

Remember when I was joking about strength training your wrists through a program of mechanical keyboards with increasing actuation thresholds?

Mechanical typewriters are a whole level beyond that

@harrisj I learned on my mother's in the mid-60's, it was hard to transition to electric, there was nothing there
