T156,

It almost certainly is, since it's a lot easier to create an account if you don't have to justify why you want the account made, and you also don't have to wait several hours for the moderators to approve your account.

You can just click a few times and go.

T156,

Although you end up having new issues with trying to sync up the user accounts across the list, and username conflicts, never mind a small server possibly having to keep up with a big list of users. Lemmy already has issues where the registration process will silently fail if the name you're trying to register isn't available, with no more indication than a throbber that just sits there and spins forever.

Maybe something like how Lemmy does communities? A user can first register from a server, but the account gets shuffled around if they join another community.

T156,

A blockchain does seem like overkill for that, though. Having a unique Username might be good enough, since you don't really want to have multiple users with the same display name anyway. Otherwise, things might start getting a bit confusing, especially if they're both in the same instance.

Stoat, to StarTrek

startrek.website is a partnership between /r/StarTrek and /r/DaystromInstitute from Reddit, they've both locked their subs over there for good. Follow @startrek for all your Trek needs. 🖖 :trek:

T156,

Speaking of Federation enthusiasts, the whole network is supposedly part of a Federation, which is a fun touch.

T156,

Not all of them, since that would be a lot of server load, especially for the more image-heavy content. Maybe only the big/official posts, but people would be cross-linking those anyway.

T156,

Is it empty, or is it just disconnected? Nothing seems to turn up if I try to load it in (or I'm using Mastodon/Lemmy/Kbin wrong).

Stealth needs more than just a Cloaking Device, and StarFleet proper never gave up on it.

In the finale of Picard Season 3, the Titan, armed with a 100 year old cloaking device, manages to successfully evade detection by the Borg controlled fleet. This raises some questions. How on earth is it that the Titan was able to accomplish this with a seemingly obsolete cloaking device?...

Obsolete is not absent. It's fairly known that the Borg don't always keep up their adaptations all the time, they only bring them up when they need. Until someone does try to sneak up and attack with one, they aren't going to care about a cloaking device, and wouldn't waste the resources trying to locate one.

T156,

But that doesn't necessarily mean that they were looking for them. Neither the Federation nor the Borg would be scanning for every single cloaking signature for every cloaking device ever invented, unless they were specifically looking for a cloaked ship. That's a ridiculous amount of processing for something that's vanishingly rare. Why would they check for a Romulan cloaking signature that's a century old? No Romulan would bother using an ancient, known-broken cloak.

It's more likely that they have some internal list of known common/current cloaking signatures, and will automate detection of those, changing as necessary. As the crew were manned by a computer, it has no reason to change that list (and Trek tends to like to make the point about computers being less flexible than humanoids anyway).

T156,

In a moment of sheer brilliance, I got completely fuddled, thought I created a duplicate account, and accidentally deleted the account I just made, inadvertently locking out the other name for good. Eventually managed to get things together enough, although I ended up with a headache. Not ideal for just getting over being ill, and a different kind of headache.

I now know what it is to be like, to be 97, and not know how to computer. Admittedly, the interface not telling you that there's an issue and just sitting there loading forever did not help any.

T156,

Has the Android table experience improved much? I remember them being infamous, especially compared to something like an iPad, or a Surface.
