I love my Scifi, my Lego, and my dinosaur fossils. I have made almost 100 lego fossils.

This week for #Fossilfriday we have another #Guess that #Lego #Fossil.

This one I would rate as hard. This mid sized marine reptile is known from Colombia, South America.

Reminder: hide your answer behind a content warning. This will allow others to guess without a hint. I will post the answer tomorrow (and to anyone who guesses correctly).

This was designed by Me

#Dinosaurs in #Doctor #Who, who would have guessed...
Lets take a look at what they show, and break down what we can see.
They say they are 150m years in the past, in #Wyoming

In this image we can clearly see a #Brachiosaurus.
As far as I know, its been found in #Colorado which is close enough for it to migrate there.

It also looks fairly accurate for a #Giraffatitan adjacent species.

In the background, although harder to see are probably #Apatosaurs, or #Diplodocus.

Over all 10/10

@mike its part of the first 3 seconds and plays no role in the plot or I would have left it a week.

No guess that #Lego fossil this week.
I went to the #Age #of #Dinosaurs museum in #Winton today and am too tired to sort it out
Sorry.
Plus side, here's some holotype images for you :D

Ferrodraco skull
Ferrodraco neck and wing
Diamantinasaurus feet, legs, ribs

@llewelly @gay_ornithischians fun fact, the pose they are in in that photo is how they were found.
Here is a look at some sauropod tracks
If u look closely, you can see mud pillars in the middle of the rear tracks after the mud stuck to its foot as it stepped up
If you look super closely, u might be able to make out a wall of mud at the front of one of the tracks where the animal slid a little as it was walking

@aRubes yep. It comes down to how awesome the design is. This one is easily one of the best out there.

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

In 2004 I played with a book idea but never took it to a publisher. I did 100 draft drawings for the proposal (never completed), here is just one more: Spinosaurus (old anatomical proportions) eating a Carcharodontosaurus.

TheDinosaurDave,
@TheDinosaurDave@sauropods.win avatar

@BobNicholls kinda want to see that book :D This is amazing

This weeks is

In 1979-80, partial remains of twelve stegosaurian individuals were found near Zigong China.

In 1982, they were named and described by Dong Zhiming, Tang Zilu and Zhou Shiwu as Huayangosaurus taibaii.

Some replicas show it with a Kentrosaurus style shoulder spike, others do not. I could only find an image of one without.

Original Lego model by Kongzilla, modified by myself to represent a new species.

been thinking about doing a drawing of owl tyrannosaurs. is that as stupid as is sounds, or is it at least possible for t. rec or any other large theropod to possess facial discs of that sort?

TheDinosaurDave,
@TheDinosaurDave@sauropods.win avatar

@jfstudiospaleoart what would be cool is a t rex, whose arms have peacock tail like feathers making it look insanely huge when extended. Just a rough scaley head, neck, and then insanely long feathers poking off their arms reaching down to the ground and 5+ meters wide.
A balance of cool, terrifying (if its roaring and the mouths open and drooling), and these insanely long feathers on each arm making it look very silly.
Now imagine one, arms feathers extended, roaring like Rexy at the end of JW

To any of the palaeontologists on here.
If humans disappeared, assuming no evidence of us is left, but all the animals in our zoos, reserves, and other places like that, get free and breed and diversify.
How do you think that palaeontologists 1m years from now would explain the extinction like event and nigh magical spread of animals all of the world. Like kangaroo fossils suddenly appearing in North America, etc.
How would you explain it? What kind of evidence would you look for?

TheDinosaurDave,
@TheDinosaurDave@sauropods.win avatar

@llewelly @freequaybuoy - to be slightly more clear, i mean no evidence of mines, buildings, roads etc. There would still be potential fossils of humans, but no evidence of our technology or population explosion. If that makes sense. I know im kinda muddled on the whole thing haha

TheDinosaurDave,
@TheDinosaurDave@sauropods.win avatar

@freequaybuoy @llewelly i dont think the continents are reprocessed every 500m years, if they were, we wouldn't have 3.5b yo Stromatolite fossils in Australia. I think you are thinking of the ocean floor, which is reprocessed every few hundred million years or so, depending on where it is and what not

TheDinosaurDave,
@TheDinosaurDave@sauropods.win avatar

@14mission yeah. The thing is, i know the evidence of us, like our mines and structures like foundations and roads and stuff will last a very long time, even if it's a limited area. Like some mines could, in theory, last until the earrh is destroyed by the sun. Metal will disappear, but if its protected enough, like some of our super deep mines, then they should more or less last forever.
Road foundations are another thing that will last an insanely long time.

There are no Peculiar Holidays this coming week, but the following week (4/21 through 4/27) there are 3, and they're all quite delightful:

• Tuesday 4/23 is Trout Faire 🐟🎪(cc @loren )
• Wednesday 4/24 is Dance of the Star 🌀⭐
• Saturday 4/27 is Harmony Skunkmas 🦨🎵

TheDinosaurDave,
@TheDinosaurDave@sauropods.win avatar

@nash @loren If you are Australian, there is one to consider, ANZAC day is the 25th.
