Lonsdale Street, despite being a major trunk route for buses travelling through the Melbourne CBD, has curbside 2-hour parking on weekends within the designated bus lane along it - and is a loading zone too, apparently. It should be a clearway 24/7, there’s no excuse even if it is paid parking.

@timrichards there’s plenty of space for cars on Lonsdale Street and only a relative sliver given over to buses - let alone bikes. Bourke Street has trams, Lonsdale Street should have a proper busway.

looking at flights to Cairns for a thing and hilariously the way to get there from the Sunshine Coast is via either Sydney or Melbourne. The travel time is measured in days. Normal country.

@Kels_316 you could take the Spirit of Queensland train up overnight? Dep Gympie North 16:24, arr Cairns 14:30 next day. Fares from $390, business-class airline-style reclining bed/chair called a "railbed".

@Kels_316 @allrite @timrichards the reason there are seats is for passengers boarding north of Rockhampton, where the Spirit of Queensland is the only service that runs along the line (The Inlander only runs Townsville-Mt Isa).

@allrite @Kels_316 @timrichards also I’ll add that when I booked my Caledonian Sleeper berth for my trip on it in late August, back in late March, there were a grand total of 5 berths left on that trip, 5 months out. And that’s a train service that runs 3 or 4 trains each night each way between Scotland and London, 6 days a week.

Brief stop at Emerald Station aboard the Spirit of the Outback train. Enough time to step out and walk around. Beautiful old timber station, very well preserved considering it only sees two passenger trains each way, each week.

@timrichards it’s kind of nuts that you could theoretically go all the way from Brisbane to Emerald via Rockhampton with an electric loco up the front, but you get a diesel the whole way instead

    Was I fucking drunk when I designed this board? I completely missed 2 GPIOs to control a LED and a switch on the schematic, and I used the wrong SERCOM for the I2C lines which means I now need to swap SCL and SDA.

    This thing is a fucking mess.
