I think if people knew the extent to which these big-data algorithms can figure out things about you just based on the links you click and posts you upvote then they would be more concerned. If it was just that they knew my location, age and interests then I wouldn’t really care much but the reality is that they probably know stuff about me, that even I don’t.

I simply don’t like the fact that this database exists somewhere because it can come back to bite me one day. Just imagine what a fascistic government could use data like this for. Or maybe not even that, but remember how we first didn’t have chatGPT and no one thought we would for years but then it just appeared and now it’s there. Well what if tomorrow someone comes up with an equally fun tool that you can put any person’s name into and it’ll give you access to all this data. I want my page on that app to be very brief and inconsistent.

I’m perfectly aware that it’s impossible to use the internet and not leave any tracks at all, but I want to make sure that my tracks are incredibly difficult to follow and preferably that they don’t lead anywhere.

Make sure you have no other adblockers, disable enhanced tracking protection for youtube (shield icon at address bar) and make sure you have no other custom rules set for youtube.

Also you don’t need to update all the filters. Just the quick fixes section -> click the clock icon and then update.

Also this all assumes you mean uBlock Origin, not just uBlock.

What VPN do you use and why?

PIA was sold to Kape Technologies a few years back and they have somewhat questionable history and that made me switch to Mullvad. Not because I thought it’s better VPN per-se, but because I wanted away from PIA and Mullvad seemed popular.

The issue is who he sold it to – the notorious creator of some pernicious data-huffing ad-ware, Crossrider. The UK-based company was cofounded by an ex-Israeli surveillance agent and a billionaire previously convicted of insider trading who was later named in the Panama Papers. It produced software which previously allowed third-party developers to hijack users’ browsers via malware injection, redirect traffic to advertisers and slurp up private data.

I think the point here is to not look at porn becaue his son is then going to find out about it. “He’s sharing what kind of porn he looks at with a minor” is about as stupid take on this as that article is to begin with.

I’m sorry my knowledge of internal politics of a country I don’t live in did not match your expectations. Controversy about people reading books to kids in drag indeed sounds really important though and definitely something I should have been aware of. This is totally a failure on my part.

So if he looks at anything “objectionable” (meaning porn), it sends it so his underage son.

After doing plumbing professionally for 10 years I’ve come to the conclusion that the main reason is difficulty of insulating PEX once it’s installed. Plumbers don’t generally do insulating in commercial jobs. There’s inherently no such differences in quality that would make PEX unsuitable for most applications. Still we seem to prefer either composite pipe for water or steel for heating. PEX mainly when it’s installed somewhere you can’t check for leaks later bexause with PEX you can do it with minimal to no joints. Underfloor heating for example.

I haven’t read the book myself, but I’ve heard that “World War Z” by Max Brooks deals with this topic alot. Not so much in the movie - obviously.

I honestly don’t know which would be the ideal form of governance but I think I slightly lean towards groups choosing a leader which would then effectively become a dictator of sort. Ideally there would be many groups though so if you don’t agree with the actions of one, you could join another. I have a feeling that democracy might not be the best choice especially initially. Life in a post apocalyptic world mandates that very difficult decisions will have to be made.

I’ve experienced this, though I aquired it the old school way; from welding.

Mine was luckily a minor case and went away in a day. Quite literally feels like you have sand in your eyes. Moved from safety squints to welding mask after that.

I truly don’t get why it matters. On reddit I made a new account once a year or so anyways and on Lemmy I’ve got like 6 of these. I never paid any attention to my or anyone else’s karma either.

After I heard even Sam Harris misuse this word I just accepted it is now a synonym for a fact despite that the original meaning is the exact opposite.

If you can throw Trump at the system and it wont topple, then I think they’re going to be just fine.
