Had the best encounter with a Great gray owl and her owlets that I’ve ever had yesterday. Still pinching myself.

I love to watch birds taking bird baths. It’s among the cutest things nature gives us. Getting to see a Western tanager drop down and take a bath in my parents’ fountain tonight was one of my favorites things.

Ash-throated flycatcher posing in front of a Joshua Tree is the gift I never asked for. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered such an accommodating bird before.

Photographing Trumpeter swans in the high desert is one of my favorite things to do in February each year.

I placed my phone up against a beer can on a picnic table and set it for a 30-second nighttime exposure.

I am sometimes surprised by what it picks up that I cannot necessarily process with my own vision.

This capture absolutely floored me.

@nuncio That is heart breaking. I hate the light pollution.

@zleap I took quite a few photos while out in a place with so much darkness. They all revealed interesting things like satellites and airplanes or light sources in the foreground.

Hutton’s vireos are easy to confuse with Ruby crowned kinglets, but when you can get a good peek at their schnoz, you’ll have a good idea which one it is. The feet can be a tougher field mark at times. This one spent quite a bit of time in the red-flowering currant blossoms.

I had been looking for a cactus wren while driving through Saguaro National Park with no luck. But a quick detour to the restrooms brought me into close proximity of this curve-billed thrasher. So, all was not lost.
