Honestly the only saving grace is they don’t show ads. But that only works while the users keep a stream of money flowing their way. It’s a lot like the paid Reddit award scheme, except Reddit still shows loads of ads lol
In some of the music communities I’m in the content creators are already telling their userbase to go follow them on threads. They’re all talking about some kind of beef between Elon and Mark and the possibility of a boxing match… Mark was right to call the people he’s leaching off of fucking idiots.
That’s a bit hyperbolic. You only do that if you join a heavily political instance or subscribe to tons of political communities. Most of the boards aren’t like that.
Something like this really should be required reading for students considering a doctorate. Then again I’m early in my degree so I might get crushed in a few years 😂. But I feel a bit more prepared emotionally than most.

Hi everyone! I’m excited to say that this is my first post on Lemmy! This reminds me of “the old days” when I was first learning the internet (in a good way!) I’m a Computer Science grad student focusing on AI, and have an interest in a ton of different areas. Anyway, it’s great to be here!
Coursework is important! I just became course-complete this spring haha. Not my field but that seems like the fundamentals of ML. From what you’ve studied so far, what would you like to accomplish in the next few years?
I like the overview of their approach. Right now students are mostly better off using textbooks or search engines for reliable info. But of course it’s enticing to ask a chatbot to write your essays. Academic dishonesty in the near future will be very difficult to police. I forsee a return to paper-and-pen only exams.

I think the average person just simply doesn't care about their privacy.
