UprisingVoltage,

Can’t really help with your request, just wanted to let you know you’re amazing OP

UprisingVoltage,

I finally bought horizon zero dawn! I just hope to have some time to play it…

UprisingVoltage,

Pop os. I just couldn’t use their desktop (even though I think it’s good, it’s just not for me)

UprisingVoltage,

Recommending ubuntu to newbies is the product of either incompetence or malice when Mint, zorin and nobara exist

UprisingVoltage,

Would you mind to explain why? I have yet to try it, but the concept seems nice: predisposing a set of tools useful for linux gamers/creators for those who are not technical

UprisingVoltage,

I’ve watched a few comparison videos, and the performance gains are negligible when compared to other common distros, so that’s definitely not the point in installing it.

The good part about nobara is the set of tools that come preinstalled and the wecome program which lets you update the system, the drivers and the codecs.

Nothing you couldn’t replicate in a few minutes on another distro of course

UprisingVoltage, (edited )

I don’t know if that makes sense, but to me it depends on how “canon” they look.

Usually the games that give you the m/f character choice will put more effort in one version of the character over the other, with the “non canon” one looking like they were forced to put them in there.

“Canon” version are also often featured in official arts and commercials.

Examples of who I picked in games following this line of reasoning:

Male Robin - FE Awakening, Female Corrin - FE Fates, Male Byleth - FE 3 houses, Female Shez - FE 3 hopes, Aether - Genshin, Stelle - Honkai star rail, Kassandra - AC Odissey

But again, this is very much a “how I feel on the spot” thing, no hard preferences in general.

Epic cons:

  • Filled to the brim with DRM, at the point where you can’t even launch many singleplayer games offline
  • Actively against linux, for some fucking reason
  • Bad launcher (but this one is no biggie, you can and should use Heroic launcher instead of the official one)
  • Bad store in general compared to steam
  • Ties with Tencent (super anti-consumer chinese state-owned megacorp)

Epic pros:

  • Free games
  • With coupons prices can get VERY low
  • When it opened I heard the percent they take from game devs was lower than the other stores (not sure if it’s still the case and tbh if it ever was)

Steam pros:

  • Pushing linux gaming like their life depends on it
  • Generally correct towards the consumer
  • Huge store and many information, from the game store pages to the workshop
  • During sales prices are good

Steam cons:

  • Drm
  • Bad official app Ux and messy ui

Gog

I don’t know anything besides the fact that it has drm-free games and that it’s owned by CDPR (the guys who developed the witcher series and cyberpunk)

I personally purchase my games on steam, since I think their contribution to linux gaming is crucial for linux to go mainstream

Choose what you will knowing this. If someone else wants to add something to this list you’re welcome to do so.

UprisingVoltage,

I can’t quite understand what it is. If it allows you to run FSR3 instead of DLSS in games where the latter is supported but the first is not… Would be pretty huge

UprisingVoltage,

If you really want to use windows 11, download an ISO and flash it on a USB using rufus.ie/it/You can disable TPM by checking a box in rufus

You’re probably better off using windows 10 LTSC (or LTSC IOT), which are long term support win10 versions aimed at enterprise, with the only real difference being they come devoid of bloatware and they are supported for many more years than the consumer version.

Even better, think about “making the jump” and upgrade to linux. The most beginner-oriented distros are stupid easy to use (and with a better UI and UX than windows imo), you do not need to use the command line at all, they will support your hardware and they will most likely have the exact programs and games you use.

Melvor Idle Free on epic until tomorrow 5PM (store.epicgames.com)

“Inspired by RuneScape, Melvor Idle takes the core of what makes an adventure game so addictive and strips it down to its purest form! This is a feature-rich, idle/incremental game combining a distinctly familiar feel with a fresh gameplay experience.”...

UprisingVoltage,

Tbh I see it as “prettier linux mint”. Good distro for beginners but nothing more

UprisingVoltage,

Sounds fun! I actually wanted to start playing this week when epic gave it for free, and I’d like to try and play with you. Unfortunately I don’t have much time to plau and I would not be able to join more often than not.

Good luck with your research though!

UprisingVoltage,

UprisingVoltage,

Lettura interessantissima e soddisfacente, grazie.

UprisingVoltage,

People either don’t know or don’t give a shit

UprisingVoltage,

I thought it was developed by mozilla

UprisingVoltage,

If mozilla = google now then firefox = chrome? What the fuck?

UprisingVoltage,

I see your point now and yeah, you’re definitely correct here.

Would’ve fit better in a web/UI/UX design themed community.

But tbh I enjoyed the video so I really don’t mind
