Although the #OzoneLayer is on track towards recovery, a hole over #Antarctica appears every year, peaking during September and October, when most biota is protected by snow and sea ice. Unfortunately, as an indirect effect of #ClimateChange, the hole is lasting longer, until well into the summer, damaging biodiversity.

Serious governance failures by the Peruvian state in the #AmazonRainforest has allowed industrial-scale agrobusiness to deforestate and operate with impunity for years.

Now since Europe plans to ban imports of commodities from ilegal #Deforestation, the Peruvian congress instead of ramping up efforts to fight deforestation, has just approved a law that in practice legalizes deforestation in the forest to keep exporting commodities.

#Mining has proven to be devastating on land; I can't image how it'd on the seabed.

Some people in the #Norway govt say they're taking a "precautionary approach to #DeepSeaMining"; but by opening the areas for exploration, they're simply ignoring scientific advise and neglecting the precautionary principle, which requires the exercise of caution when making decisions that may adversely affect nature, natural ecosystems and global biogeochemical cycles (Kibert, 2016).
