Herds of hippos are at risk of dying due to a severe #Drought in #Botswana, which is home to one of the largest hippo populations. The rivers of the region have already dried-up, forcing hippos to congregate around the remaining muddy ponds.
In february, there were already reports of wildlife struggling and perishing due to the unsually dry conditions in #Botswana. The country's rainy season used to last from October to March, but it has become more erratic in recent yars.
Although according to
NASA and World Weather Attribution, the severe #Drought in southern Africa, with some regions receiving less than 20% of their average rainfall, is mainly driven by #ElNiño instead of #ClimateChange.
Meanwhile in easthern Africa, countries like #Kenya, #Uganda and #Tanzania, have been battling against #Floods for months with hundreds killed and thousands displaced.
