WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

ZSNES in 1998? Did they even have sound working then? IIRC it wasn’t until 2000 or so that SNES emulation really became playable.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

She’s not. She was built by the Jim Henson Company.

The New Zealand Story has me hooked again (lemmy.world)

I always loved this game, the graphics are so colourful and cute and the music is catchy as. I live in New Zealand and while we don’t have quite so many mazes full of nasty enemies IRL it is fun to see how a Japanese tourist in the '80s saw this place. The difficulty is vicious, but I discovered this gem in the Taito Legends...

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

I always thought that this game doesn’t get the recognition that it deserves. It should be held up as one of the best platformers of the '80s, but it tends to be forgotten.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

I like seeing the points on individual comments and posts. I don't really care about my account total.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

You know, I never considered looking at that. I'd look at people's profiles from time to time to see their previous comments (mostly to figure out if the thing that they'd just said was sarcasm or if they actually believed it) but I never looked in the top right to see the karma.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

What do they expect to see? The DeSantises were likely standing near the photographer before they got into position for the picture, so there's only a tiny patch of visible ground where they could've left footprints. They're also barefoot on what looks like an overcast day (their shadows are certainly fairly soft) so footprints would be tough to see on white sand anyway.

Ron DeSantis is a bigoted, authoritarian shit, but this photo means nothing.

Reddit Ramps Up Its Threats To Protesting Mods, As Ad Buyers Leave (www.techdirt.com)

The landed gentry are only in charge until the king comes to town and chops off a few heads. At least that seems to be the case at Reddit, where CEO Steve Huffman pretended his complaints about current moderators — who were protesting his decision to effectively cut off API access to tons of useful…

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

What happened to Slashdot? There wasn’t really one particular event that made me stop using that site, I just sort of drifted away. Was there an “enshittification” moment there, too?

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

I guess I mostly used it after the sale, then. I started in 1998 or 1999 (when the hype for The Phantom Menace was building up) and used it until the early 2010s.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

It is official; Netcraft now confirms: Reddit is dying.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

Let’s just hope that we get 20 back from the Kaiser before we hit that number.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

I didn't know about OwnCast. I'll have to look into that.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

I don't stream myself so I can't speak for that side of things, but just for watching streams the software seems fine but there's not much content. Same story as a lot of Fediverse systems.

Maybe once the Lemmy/kbin threaded Fediverse takes off (which I think has the potential to be the first federated network to eclipse its centralized counterparts) there can be some synergy with these other platforms that can help them get more users.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

Thing is, people stay on Facebook because their friends and family are on Facebook. Reddit is far more anonymous and therefore has far less inertia.

Which obscure consoles have you played on?

When I was a kid my family had a TI-99/4A. The 99 series was Texas Instruments’ only real foray into the PC and video game market, and it failed to be competitive with Commodore, Atari, and Amiga. Most games were booted from cartridges. My favorites were Hunt the Wumpus, a sort of early survival-horror with a turn-based grid...

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

I had a Casio FX-795P as a kid. Not really a game system, just a calculator with a one-line text display, but it had a BASIC interpreter built in so I made some games for it (a couple of text adventures and a side-view shooter.)

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

Still better than being stuck in there for four days as their air supply ran out, which is what people thought might have happened before the wreckage was found.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot,

The description says "A community to discuss conservative policies and views." It says nothing about what your opinion on those policies and views has to be. I see this becoming a great place to discuss conservatism, its impact on society and the best ways to fight against it.
